So allIsrael were reckoned bygenealogies; and, behold, they werewritten in thebook of thekings ofIsrael andJudah, who were carriedaway toBabylon for theirtransgression.
Now thefirstinhabitants that dwelt in theirpossessions in theircities were, theIsraelites, thepriests,Levites, and theNethinims.
And inJerusalemdwelt of thechildren ofJudah, and of thechildren ofBenjamin, and of thechildren ofEphraim, andManasseh;
And theirbrethren,heads of thehouse of theirfathers, athousand andsevenhundred andthreescore; veryablemen for thework of theservice of thehouse ofGod.
And of theLevites;Shemaiah theson ofHasshub, theson ofAzrikam, theson ofHashabiah, of thesons ofMerari;
AndObadiah theson ofShemaiah, theson ofGalal, theson ofJeduthun, andBerechiah theson ofAsa, theson ofElkanah, thatdwelt in thevillages of theNetophathites.
And theporters were,Shallum, andAkkub, andTalmon, andAhiman, and theirbrethren:Shallum was thechief;
Who hitherto waited in theking'sgateeastward: they wereporters in thecompanies of thechildren ofLevi.
AndShallum theson ofKore, theson ofEbiasaph, theson ofKorah, and hisbrethren, of thehouse of hisfather, theKorahites, were over thework of theservice,keepers of thegates of thetabernacle: and theirfathers, being over thehost of theLORD, werekeepers of theentry.

AndZechariah theson ofMeshelemiah wasporter of thedoor of thetabernacle of thecongregation.
All these which werechosen to beporters in thegates were twohundred andtwelve. These were reckoned by theirgenealogy in theirvillages,whomDavid andSamuel theseer didordain in their setoffice.
So they and theirchildren had the oversight of thegates of thehouse of theLORD, namely, thehouse of thetabernacle, bywards.
Infourquarters were theporters, toward theeast,west,north, andsouth.
And theirbrethren, which were in theirvillages, were tocome aftersevendays fromtime totime with them.
For theseLevites, thefourchiefporters, were in their setoffice, and were over thechambers andtreasuries of thehouse ofGod.
And theylodged roundabout thehouse ofGod, because thecharge was upon them, and theopening thereof everymorning pertained to them.
And certain of them had the chargeof theministeringvessels, that they should bring themin andout bytale.
Some of them also wereappointed to oversee thevessels, and all theinstruments of thesanctuary, and the fineflour, and thewine, and theoil, and thefrankincense, and thespices.
And some of thesons of thepriestsmade theointment of thespices.
AndMattithiah, one of theLevites, who was thefirstborn ofShallum theKorahite, had the setoffice over the things that weremade in thepans.
And other of theirbrethren, of thesons of theKohathites, were over theshewbread, toprepare it everysabbath.
And these are thesingers,chief of thefathers of theLevites, who remaining in thechambers werefree: for they were employed in thatworkday andnight.
