AndElijah theTishbite, who was of theinhabitants ofGilead,said untoAhab, As theLORDGod ofIsraelliveth,before whom Istand, there shall not bedew norrain theseyears, butaccording to myword.
2 And theword of theLORD came unto him,saying,
3Get thee hence, andturn theeeastward, andhide thyself by thebrookCherith, that isbeforeJordan.
4 And it shall be, that thou shaltdrink of thebrook; and I havecommanded theravens tofeed thee there.
5 So hewent anddid according unto theword of theLORD: for hewent anddwelt by thebrookCherith, that isbeforeJordan.
6 And theravensbrought himbread andflesh in themorning, andbread andflesh in theevening; and hedrank of thebrook.
7 And it came to passafter awhile, that thebrook driedup, because there had been norain in theland.
8 And theword of theLORD came unto him,saying,
9Arise,get thee toZarephath, which belongeth toZidon, anddwell there: behold, I havecommanded awidowwoman there tosustain thee.
10 So hearose andwent toZarephath. And when hecame to thegate of thecity, behold, thewidowwoman was theregathering ofsticks: and hecalled to her, andsaid,Fetch me, I pray thee, alittlewater in avessel, that I maydrink.
11 And as she wasgoing tofetch it, hecalled to her, andsaid,Bring me, I pray thee, amorsel ofbread in thinehand.
12 And shesaid, As theLORD thyGodliveth, Ihave not acake, but anhandful ofmeal in abarrel, and alittleoil in acruse: and, behold, I amgatheringtwosticks, that I may goin anddress it for me and myson, that we mayeat it, anddie.
13 AndElijahsaid unto her,Fear not;go anddo as thou hastsaid: butmake methereof alittlecakefirst, andbring it unto me, andaftermake for thee and for thyson.
14 For thussaith theLORDGod ofIsrael, Thebarrel ofmeal shall notwaste, neither shall thecruse ofoilfail, until theday that theLORDsendethrainupon theearth.
15 And shewent anddid according to thesaying ofElijah: and she, and he, and herhouse, dideat manydays.
16 And thebarrel ofmealwasted not, neither did thecruse ofoilfail, according to theword of theLORD, which hespakebyElijah.
17 And it came to passafter thesethings, that theson of thewoman, themistress of thehouse, fellsick; and hissickness wassosore, that there was nobreathleft in him.
18 And shesaid untoElijah, What have I to do with thee, O thouman ofGod? art thoucome unto me tocall mysin toremembrance, and toslay myson?
19 And hesaid unto her,Give me thyson. And hetook him out of herbosom, and carried himup into aloft, where heabode, andlaid him upon his ownbed.
20 And hecried unto theLORD, andsaid, OLORD myGod, hast thou also broughtevil upon thewidow with whom Isojourn, byslaying herson?
21 And hestretched himself upon thechildthreetimes, andcried unto theLORD, andsaid, OLORD myGod, I pray thee, let thischild'ssoulcome intohimagain.
22 And theLORDheard thevoice ofElijah; and thesoul of thechildcame intohimagain, and herevived.
23 AndElijahtook thechild, and brought himdown out of thechamber into thehouse, anddelivered him unto hismother: andElijahsaid,See, thysonliveth.
24 And thewomansaid toElijah, Now bythis Iknow that thou art aman ofGod, and that theword of theLORD in thymouth istruth.
