2 And it came to pass in thethirdyear, thatJehoshaphat theking ofJudah camedown to theking ofIsrael.
3 And theking ofIsraelsaid unto hisservants,Know ye thatRamoth inGilead is ours, and we bestill, andtake it not out of thehand of theking ofSyria?
4 And hesaid untoJehoshaphat, Wilt thougo with me tobattle toRamothgilead? AndJehoshaphatsaid to theking ofIsrael, I am asthou art, mypeople as thypeople, myhorses as thyhorses.
5 AndJehoshaphatsaid unto theking ofIsrael,Enquire, I pray thee, at theword of theLORD today.
6 Then theking ofIsraelgathered theprophetstogether, aboutfourhundredmen, andsaid unto them, Shall Igo againstRamothgilead tobattle, or shall Iforbear? And theysaid, Goup; for theLord shalldeliver it into thehand of theking.
7 AndJehoshaphatsaid, Is there not here aprophet of theLORDbesides, that we mightenquire of him?
8 And theking ofIsraelsaid untoJehoshaphat, There is yetoneman,Micaiah theson ofImlah, by whom we mayenquire of theLORD: but Ihate him; for he doth notprophesygood concerning me, butevil. AndJehoshaphatsaid, Let not thekingsay so.
9 Then theking ofIsraelcalledanofficer, andsaid,Hasten hitherMicaiah theson ofImlah.
10 And theking ofIsrael andJehoshaphat theking ofJudahsateach on histhrone, having puton theirrobes, in a voidplace in theentrance of thegate ofSamaria; and all theprophetsprophesiedbefore them.
11 AndZedekiah theson ofChenaanahmade himhorns ofiron: and hesaid, Thussaith theLORD, With these shalt thoupush theSyrians, until thou haveconsumed them.
12 And all theprophetsprophesied so,saying, Goup toRamothgilead, andprosper: for theLORD shalldeliver it into theking'shand.
13 And themessenger that wasgone tocallMicaiahspake unto him,saying, Behold now, thewords of theprophets declaregood unto theking withonemouth: let thyword, I pray thee, be like theword ofone of them, andspeak that which isgood.
14 AndMicaiahsaid, As theLORDliveth, what theLORDsaith unto me, that will Ispeak.
15 So hecame to theking. And thekingsaid unto him,Micaiah, shall wego againstRamothgilead tobattle, or shall weforbear? And heanswered him,Go, andprosper: for theLORD shalldeliver it into thehand of theking.
16 And thekingsaid unto him, How manytimes shall Iadjure thee that thoutell me nothing but that which istrue in thename of theLORD?
17 And hesaid, Isaw allIsraelscattered upon thehills, assheep that have not ashepherd: and theLORDsaid, These have nomaster: let themreturn everyman to hishouse inpeace.
18 And theking ofIsraelsaid untoJehoshaphat, Did I nottell thee that he wouldprophesy nogood concerning me, butevil?
19 And hesaid,Hear thou therefore theword of theLORD: Isaw theLORDsitting on histhrone, and all thehost ofheavenstanding by him on his righthand and on hisleft.
20 And theLORDsaid, Who shallpersuadeAhab, that he may goup andfall atRamothgilead? And onesaid on thismanner, and anothersaid on thatmanner.
21 And there cameforth aspirit, andstoodbefore theLORD, andsaid, I willpersuade him.
22 And theLORDsaid unto him, Wherewith? And hesaid, I will goforth, and I will be alyingspirit in themouth of all hisprophets. And hesaid, Thou shaltpersuade him, andprevail also: goforth, anddo so.
23 Now therefore, behold, theLORD hathput alyingspirit in themouth of all these thyprophets, and theLORD hathspokenevil concerning thee.
24 ButZedekiah theson ofChenaanah wentnear, andsmoteMicaiah on thecheek, andsaid, Whichwaywent theSpirit of theLORD from me tospeak unto thee?
25 AndMicaiahsaid, Behold, thou shaltsee in thatday, when thou shaltgo into aninnerchamber tohide thyself.
26 And theking ofIsraelsaid,TakeMicaiah, and carry himback untoAmon thegovernor of thecity, and toJoash theking'sson;
27 Andsay, Thussaith theking,Put this fellow in theprison, andfeed him withbread ofaffliction and withwater ofaffliction, until Icome inpeace.
28 AndMicaiahsaid, If thoureturn atall inpeace, theLORD hath notspoken by me. And hesaid,Hearken, Opeople, every one of you.
29 So theking ofIsrael andJehoshaphat theking ofJudah wentup toRamothgilead.
30 And theking ofIsraelsaid untoJehoshaphat, I willdisguise myself, andenter into thebattle; but put thouon thyrobes. And theking ofIsraeldisguised himself, andwent into thebattle.
31 But theking ofSyriacommanded histhirty andtwocaptains that had rule over hischariots,saying,Fight neither withsmall norgreat, save only with theking ofIsrael.
32 And it came to pass, when thecaptains of thechariotssawJehoshaphat, that theysaid, Surely it is theking ofIsrael. And they turnedaside tofight against him: andJehoshaphat criedout.
33 And it came to pass, when thecaptains of thechariotsperceived that it was not theking ofIsrael, that they turnedback frompursuing him.
34 And a certainmandrew abow at aventure, andsmote theking ofIsrael between thejoints of theharness: wherefore hesaid unto the driver of his chariot, Turn thine hand, and carry me out of the host; for I am wounded.
35And the battle increased that day: and the king was stayed up in his chariot against the Syrians, and died at even: and the blood ran out of the wound into the midst of the chariot.
36And there went a proclamation throughout the host about the going down of the sun, saying, Every man to his city, and every man to his own country.
37So the king died, and was brought to Samaria; and they buried the king in Samaria.
38And one washed the chariot in the pool of Samaria; and the dogs licked up his blood; and they washed his armour; according unto the word of the LORD which he spake.
39Now the rest of the acts of Ahab, and all that he did, and the ivory house which he made, and all the cities that he built, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
40So Ahab slept with his fathers; and Ahaziah his son reigned in his stead.
41And Jehoshaphat the son of Asa began to reign over Judah in the fourth year of Ahab king of Israel.
42Jehoshaphat was thirty and five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty and five years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi.
43And he walked in all the ways of Asa his father; he turned not aside from it, doing that which was right in the eyes of the LORD: nevertheless the high places were not taken away; for the people offered and burnt incense yet in the high places.
44And Jehoshaphat made peace with the king of Israel.
45Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, and his might that he shewed, and how he warred, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
46And the remnant of the sodomites, which remained in the days of his father Asa, he took out of the land.
47There was then no king in Edom: a deputy was king.
48Jehoshaphat made ships of Tharshish to go to Ophir for gold: but they went not; for the ships were broken at Eziongeber.
49Then said Ahaziah the son of Ahab unto Jehoshaphat, Let my servants go with thy servants in the ships. But Jehoshaphat would not.
50And Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David his father: and Jehoram his son reigned in his stead.
51Ahaziah the son of Ahab began to reign over Israel in Samaria the seventeenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and reigned two years over Israel.
52And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, and walked in the way of his father, and in the way of his mother, and in the way of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin:
53For he served Baal, and worshipped him, and provoked to anger the LORD God of Israel, according to all that his father had done.
