AndDavid'smensaid unto him, Behold, we beafraid here inJudah: how much more then if wecome toKeilah against thearmies of thePhilistines?
ThenDavidenquired of theLORD yetagain. And theLORDanswered him andsaid,Arise, godown toKeilah; for I willdeliver thePhilistines into thinehand.
SoDavid and hismenwent toKeilah, andfought with thePhilistines, and broughtaway theircattle, andsmote them with agreatslaughter. SoDavidsaved theinhabitants ofKeilah.
And it came to pass, whenAbiathar theson ofAhimelechfled toDavid toKeilah, that he camedown with anephod in hishand.
And it wastoldSaul thatDavid wascome toKeilah. AndSaulsaid,God hathdelivered him into minehand; for he is shutin, byentering into atown that hathgates andbars.
AndSaulcalled all thepeopletogether towar, to godown toKeilah, tobesiegeDavid and hismen.
AndDavidknew thatSaul secretlypractisedmischief against him; and hesaid toAbiathar thepriest, Bringhither theephod.
ThensaidDavid, OLORDGod ofIsrael, thyservant hathcertainlyheard thatSaulseeketh tocome toKeilah, todestroy thecity for my sake.
Will themen ofKeilah deliver meup into hishand? willSaul comedown, as thyservant hathheard? OLORDGod ofIsrael, I beseech thee, tell thyservant. And theLORDsaid, He will comedown.
ThensaidDavid, Will themen ofKeilahdeliver me and mymen into thehand ofSaul? And theLORDsaid, They will deliver theeup.
ThenDavid and hismen, which were aboutsixhundred, arose anddeparted out ofKeilah, andwentwhithersoever they couldgo. And it wastoldSaul thatDavid wasescaped fromKeilah; and heforbare to goforth.
AndDavidabode in thewilderness in strongholds, andremained in amountain in thewilderness ofZiph. AndSaulsought him everyday, butGoddelivered him not into hishand.
AndDavidsaw thatSaul was comeout toseek hislife: andDavid was in thewilderness ofZiph in awood.
AndJonathanSaul'ssonarose, andwent toDavid into thewood, andstrengthened hishand inGod.
And hesaid unto him,Fear not: for thehand ofSaul myfather shall notfind thee; and thou shalt beking overIsrael, and I shall benext unto thee; and that alsoSaul myfatherknoweth.
And theytwomade acovenantbefore theLORD: andDavidabode in thewood, andJonathanwent to hishouse.
Then cameup theZiphites toSaul toGibeah, saying, Doth notDavidhide himself with us in strongholds in thewood, in thehill ofHachilah, which is on thesouth ofJeshimon?
Now therefore, Oking, comedown according to all thedesire of thysoul to comedown; and our part shall be todeliver him into theking'shand.
AndSaulsaid,Blessed be ye of theLORD; for ye havecompassion on me.
Go, I pray you, prepare yet, andknow andsee hisplace where hishaunt is, and who hathseen him there: for it istold me that he dealethverysubtilly.
See therefore, and takeknowledge of all the lurkingplaces where hehideth himself, and come yeagain to me with thecertainty, and I willgo with you: and it shall come to pass, if hebe in theland, that I willsearch him out throughout all thethousands ofJudah.
And theyarose, andwent toZiphbeforeSaul: butDavid and hismen were in thewilderness ofMaon, in theplain on thesouth ofJeshimon.
Saul also and hismenwent toseek him. And theytoldDavid: wherefore he camedown into arock, andabode in thewilderness ofMaon. And whenSaulheard that, hepursuedafterDavid in thewilderness ofMaon.
AndSaulwent on thisside of themountain, andDavid and hismen on thatside of themountain: andDavid madehaste to getaway forfear ofSaul; forSaul and hismencompassedDavid and hismen roundabout totake them.
But therecame amessenger untoSaul, saying,Haste thee, andcome; for thePhilistines haveinvaded theland.
