Chapter 6
KJV · Textus Receptus
ThensaidSolomon, TheLORD hathsaid that he woulddwell in the thickdarkness.
But I havebuilt anhouse ofhabitation for thee, and aplace for thydwelling forever.
And thekingturned hisface, andblessed the wholecongregation ofIsrael: and all thecongregation ofIsraelstood.
And hesaid,Blessed be theLORDGod ofIsrael, who hath with hishandsfulfilled that which hespake with hismouth to myfatherDavid,saying,
Since theday that I broughtforth mypeople out of theland ofEgypt Ichose nocity among all thetribes ofIsrael tobuild anhouse in, that myname might be there; neitherchose I anyman to be aruler over mypeopleIsrael:
But I havechosenJerusalem, that myname might be there; and havechosenDavid to be over mypeopleIsrael.
Now it was in theheart ofDavid myfather tobuild anhouse for thename of theLORDGod ofIsrael.
But theLORDsaid toDavid myfather, Forasmuch as it was in thineheart tobuild anhouse for myname, thou didstwell in that it was in thineheart:
Notwithstanding thou shalt notbuild thehouse; but thyson which shall comeforth out of thyloins, he shallbuild thehouse for myname.
TheLORD therefore hathperformed hisword that he hathspoken: for I am risenup in the room ofDavid myfather, and amset on thethrone ofIsrael, as theLORDpromised, and havebuilt thehouse for thename of theLORDGod ofIsrael.
And init have Iput theark, wherein is thecovenant of theLORD, that hemade with thechildren ofIsrael.
And hestoodbefore thealtar of theLORD in the presence of all thecongregation ofIsrael, and spreadforth hishands:
ForSolomon hadmade abrasenscaffold, offivecubitslong, andfivecubitsbroad, andthreecubitshigh, and hadset it in themidst of thecourt: and upon it hestood, and kneeleddown upon hisknees before all thecongregation ofIsrael, and spreadforth hishands towardheaven,
Andsaid, OLORDGod ofIsrael, there is noGod like thee in theheaven, nor in theearth; whichkeepestcovenant, and shewestmercy unto thyservants, thatwalkbefore thee with all theirhearts:
Thou which hastkept with thyservantDavid myfather that which thou hastpromised him; andspakest with thymouth, and hastfulfilled it with thinehand, as it is thisday.
Now therefore, OLORDGod ofIsrael,keep with thyservantDavid myfather that which thou hastpromised him,saying, There shall notfail thee aman in mysight tosit upon thethrone ofIsrael; yetso that thychildren takeheed to theirway towalk in mylaw, as thou hastwalkedbefore me.
Now then, OLORDGod ofIsrael, let thyword beverified, which thou hastspoken unto thyservantDavid.
But willGod in verydeeddwell withmen on theearth? behold,heaven and theheaven ofheavens cannotcontain thee; how much less thishouse which I havebuilt!
Haverespect therefore to theprayer of thyservant, and to hissupplication, OLORD myGod, tohearken unto thecry and theprayer which thyservantprayethbefore thee:
That thineeyes may beopen upon thishouseday andnight, upon theplace whereof thou hastsaid that thou wouldestput thyname there; tohearken unto theprayer which thyservantprayeth toward thisplace.
Hearken therefore unto thesupplications of thyservant, and of thypeopleIsrael, which they shallmake toward thisplace:hear thou from thydwellingplace, even fromheaven; and when thouhearest,forgive.
If amansin against hisneighbour, and anoath belaid upon him to make himswear, and theoathcomebefore thinealtar in thishouse;
Thenhear thou fromheaven, anddo, andjudge thyservants, byrequiting thewicked, byrecompensing hisway upon his ownhead; and byjustifying therighteous, bygiving him according to hisrighteousness.
And if thypeopleIsrael be put to theworsebefore theenemy, because they havesinned against thee; and shallreturn andconfess thyname, andpray and makesupplicationbefore thee in thishouse;
Thenhear thou from theheavens, andforgive thesin of thypeopleIsrael, and bring themagain unto theland which thougavest to them and to theirfathers.
When theheaven is shutup, and there is norain, because they havesinned against thee; yet if theypray toward thisplace, andconfess thyname, andturn from theirsin, when thou dostafflict them;
Thenhear thou fromheaven, andforgive thesin of thyservants, and of thypeopleIsrael, when thou hasttaught them thegoodway, wherein they shouldwalk; andsendrain upon thyland, which thou hastgiven unto thypeople for aninheritance.
If there bedearth in theland, if there bepestilence, if there beblasting, ormildew,locusts, orcaterpillers; if theirenemiesbesiege them in thecities of theirland; whatsoeversore or whatsoeversickness there be:
Then whatprayer or whatsupplication soever shall be made of anyman, or of all thypeopleIsrael, when everyone shallknow his ownsore and his owngrief, and shall spreadforth hishands in thishouse:
Thenhear thou fromheaven thydwellingplace, andforgive, andrender unto everyman according unto all hisways, whoseheart thouknowest; (for thou onlyknowest thehearts of thechildren ofmen:)
That they mayfear thee, towalk in thyways, so long as they live in the land which thou gavest unto our fathers.
Moreover concerning the stranger, which is not of thy people Israel, but is come from a far country for thy great name's sake, and thy mighty hand, and thy stretched out arm; if they come and pray in this house;
Then hear thou from the heavens, even from thy dwelling place, and do according to all that the stranger calleth to thee for; that all people of the earth may know thy name, and fear thee, as doth thy people Israel, and may know that this house which I have built is called by thy name.
If thy people go out to war against their enemies by the way that thou shalt send them, and they pray unto thee toward this city which thou hast chosen, and the house which I have built for thy name;
Then hear thou from the heavens their prayer and their supplication, and maintain their cause.
If they sin against thee, (for there is no man which sinneth not,) and thou be angry with them, and deliver them over before their enemies, and they carry them away captives unto a land far off or near;
Yet if they bethink themselves in the land whither they are carried captive, and turn and pray unto thee in the land of their captivity, saying, We have sinned, we have done amiss, and have dealt wickedly;
If they return to thee with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their captivity, whither they have carried them captives, and pray toward their land, which thou gavest unto their fathers, and toward the city which thou hast chosen, and toward the house which I have built for thy name:
Then hear thou from the heavens, even from thy dwelling place, their prayer and their supplications, and maintain their cause, and forgive thy people which have sinned against thee.
Now, my God, let, I beseech thee, thine eyes be open, and let thine ears be attent unto the prayer that is made in this place.
Now therefore arise, O LORD God, into thy resting place, thou, and the ark of thy strength: let thy priests, O LORD God, be clothed with salvation, and let thy saints rejoice in goodness.
O LORD God, turn not away the face of thine anointed: remember the mercies of David thy servant.
