And whenAthaliah themother ofAhaziahsaw that herson wasdead, shearose anddestroyed all theseedroyal.
2 ButJehosheba, thedaughter ofkingJoram,sister ofAhaziah,tookJoash theson ofAhaziah, andstole him fromamong theking'ssons which wereslain; and theyhid him, even him and hisnurse, in thebedchamberfromAthaliah, so that he was notslain.
3 And he was with herhid in thehouse of theLORDsixyears. AndAthaliah didreign over theland.
4 And theseventhyearJehoiadasent andfetched therulers overhundreds, with thecaptains and theguard, andbrought them to him into thehouse of theLORD, andmade acovenant with them, and took anoath of them in thehouse of theLORD, andshewed them theking'sson.
5 And hecommanded them,saying, This is thething that ye shalldo; A thirdpart of you that enterin on thesabbath shall even bekeepers of thewatch of theking'shouse;
6 And a thirdpart shall be at thegate ofSur; and a thirdpart at thegatebehind theguard: so shall yekeep thewatch of thehouse, that it be not brokendown.
7 Andtwoparts of all you that goforth on thesabbath, even they shallkeep thewatch of thehouse of theLORDabout theking.
8 And ye shallcompass theking roundabout, everyman with hisweapons in hishand: and he thatcometh within theranges, let him beslain: and be ye with theking as he goethout and as he comethin.
9 And thecaptains over thehundredsdid according to all things thatJehoiada thepriestcommanded: and theytook everyman hismen that were to comein on thesabbath, with them that should goout on thesabbath, andcame toJehoiada thepriest.
10 And to thecaptains overhundreds did thepriestgivekingDavid'sspears andshields, that were in thetemple of theLORD.
11 And theguardstood, everyman with hisweapons in hishand, roundabout theking, from therightcorner of thetemple to theleftcorner of thetemple, along by thealtar and thetemple.
12 And he broughtforth theking'sson, andput thecrown upon him, and gave him thetestimony; and they made himking, andanointed him; and theyclapped theirhands, andsaid, Godsave theking.
13 And whenAthaliahheard thenoise of theguard and of thepeople, shecame to thepeople into thetemple of theLORD.
14 And when shelooked, behold, thekingstood by apillar, as themanner was, and theprinces and thetrumpeters by theking, and all thepeople of thelandrejoiced, andblew withtrumpets: andAthaliahrent herclothes, andcried,Treason,Treason.
15 ButJehoiada thepriestcommanded thecaptains of thehundreds, theofficers of thehost, andsaid unto them, Have herforthwithout theranges: and him thatfolloweth herkill with thesword. For thepriest hadsaid, Let her not beslain in thehouse of theLORD.
16 And theylaidhands on her; and shewent by theway by the which thehorsescame into theking'shouse: and there was sheslain.
17 AndJehoiadamade acovenant between theLORD and theking and thepeople, that they should be theLORD'Speople; between theking also and thepeople.
18 And all thepeople of thelandwent into thehouse ofBaal, and brake itdown; hisaltars and hisimages brake they inpiecesthoroughly, andslewMattan thepriest ofBaalbefore thealtars. And thepriestappointedofficers over thehouse of theLORD.
19 And hetook therulers overhundreds, and thecaptains, and theguard, and all thepeople of theland; and they broughtdown theking from thehouse of theLORD, andcame by theway of thegate of theguard to theking'shouse. And hesat on thethrone of thekings.
20 And all thepeople of thelandrejoiced, and thecity was inquiet: and theyslewAthaliah with thesword beside theking'shouse.
21Sevenyearsold wasJehoash when he began toreign.
