KJV · Textus Receptus
Now therecried acertainwoman of thewives of thesons of theprophets untoElisha, saying, Thyservant myhusband isdead; and thouknowest that thyservant didfear theLORD: and thecreditor iscome totake unto him mytwosons to bebondmen.
AndElishasaid unto her, What shall Ido for thee?tell me, whathast thou in thehouse? And shesaid, Thinehandmaid hath not any thing in thehouse, save apot ofoil.
Then hesaid,Go,borrow theevesselsabroad of all thyneighbours, evenemptyvessels; borrow not afew.
And when thou art comein, thou shaltshut thedoor upon thee and upon thysons, and shalt pourout into all thosevessels, and thou shalt setaside that which isfull.
So shewent from him, andshut thedoor upon her andupon hersons, whobrought the vessels to her; and she pouredout.
And it came to pass, when thevessels werefull, that shesaid unto herson,Bring me yet avessel. And hesaid unto her, There is not avessel more. And theoilstayed.
Then shecame andtold theman ofGod. And hesaid,Go,sell theoil, andpay thydebt, andlive thou and thychildren of therest.
And it fell on aday, thatElishapassed toShunem, where was agreatwoman; and sheconstrained him toeatbread. And so it was, that asoft as he passedby, heturned in thither toeatbread.
And shesaid unto herhusband, Behold now, Iperceive that this is anholyman ofGod, whichpasseth by uscontinually.
Let usmake alittlechamber, I pray thee, on thewall; and let usset for him there abed, and atable, and astool, and acandlestick: and it shall be, when hecometh to us, that he shallturn in thither.
And it fell on aday, that hecame thither, and heturned into thechamber, andlay there.
And hesaid toGehazi hisservant,Call thisShunammite. And when he hadcalled her, shestoodbefore him.
And hesaid unto him,Say now unto her, Behold, thou hast beencareful for us with all thiscare; what is to bedone for thee?wouldest thou bespoken for to theking, or to thecaptain of thehost? And sheanswered, Idwellamong mine ownpeople.
And hesaid, What then is to bedone for her? AndGehazianswered,Verily she hath nochild, and herhusband isold.
And hesaid,Call her. And when he hadcalled her, shestood in thedoor.
And hesaid, About thisseason, according to thetime oflife, thou shaltembrace ason. And shesaid, Nay, mylord, thouman ofGod, do notlie unto thinehandmaid.
And thewomanconceived, andbare ason at thatseason thatElisha hadsaid unto her, according to thetime oflife.
And when thechild wasgrown, it fell on aday, that he wentout to hisfather to thereapers.
And hesaid unto hisfather, Myhead, myhead. And hesaid to alad,Carry him to hismother.
And when he hadtaken him, andbrought him to hismother, hesat on herknees tillnoon, and thendied.
And she wentup, andlaid him on thebed of theman ofGod, andshut the door upon him, and wentout.
And shecalled unto herhusband, andsaid,Send me, I pray thee, one of the youngmen, andone of theasses, that I mayrun to theman ofGod, and comeagain.
And hesaid, Wherefore wilt thougo to him today? it is neither newmoon, norsabbath. And shesaid, It shall bewell.
Then shesaddled anass, andsaid to herservant,Drive, and goforward;slack not thyriding for me, except Ibid thee.
So shewent andcame unto theman ofGod tomountCarmel. And it came to pass, when theman ofGod saw her afaroff, that hesaid toGehazi hisservant, Behold, yonder isthatShunammite:
Run now, I pray thee, tomeet her, andsay unto her, Is itwell with thee? is itwell with thyhusband? is itwell with thechild? And sheanswered, It iswell.
And when shecame to theman ofGod to thehill, shecaught him by thefeet: butGehazi camenear to thrust heraway. And theman ofGodsaid, Let heralone; for hersoul isvexed within her: and theLORD hathhid it from me, and hath nottold me.
Then shesaid, Did Idesire ason of mylord? did I notsay, Do notdeceive me?
Then hesaid toGehazi, Girdup thyloins, andtake mystaff in thinehand, and go thyway: if thoumeet anyman, salute him not; and ifanysalute thee, answer him notagain: andlay mystaff upon theface of thechild.
And themother of thechildsaid, As theLORDliveth, and as thysoulliveth, I will notleave thee. And hearose, andfollowed her.
AndGehazi passedonbefore them, andlaid thestaff upon theface of thechild; but there was neithervoice, norhearing. Wherefore he wentagain tomeet him, andtold him, saying, Thechild is notawaked.
And whenElisha wascome into thehouse, behold, thechild wasdead, andlaid upon hisbed.
He wentin therefore, andshut thedoor upon themtwain, andprayed unto theLORD.
And he wentup, andlay upon thechild, and the flesh of the child waxed warm.
Then he returned, and walked in the house to and fro; and went up, and stretched himself upon him: and the child sneezed seven times, and the child opened his eyes.
And he called Gehazi, and said, Call this Shunammite. So he called her. And when she was come in unto him, he said, Take up thy son.
Then she went in, and fell at his feet, and bowed herself to the ground, and took up her son, and went out.
And Elisha came again to Gilgal: and there was a dearth in the land; and the sons of the prophets were sitting before him: and he said unto his servant, Set on the great pot, and seethe pottage for the sons of the prophets.
And one went out into the field to gather herbs, and found a wild vine, and gathered thereof wild gourds his lap full, and came and shred them into the pot of pottage: for they knew them not.
So they poured out for the men to eat. And it came to pass, as they were eating of the pottage, that they cried out, and said, O thou man of God, there is death in the pot. And they could not eat thereof.
But he said, Then bring meal. And he cast it into the pot; and he said, Pour out for the people, that they may eat. And there was no harm in the pot.
And there came a man from Baalshalisha, and brought the man of God bread of the firstfruits, twenty loaves of barley, and full ears of corn in the husk thereof. And he said, Give unto the people, that they may eat.
And his servitor said, What, should I set this before an hundred men? He said again, Give the people, that they may eat: for thus saith the LORD, They shall eat, and shall leave thereof.
So he set it before them, and they did eat, and left thereof, according to the word of the LORD.
