Chapter 5
KJV · Textus Receptus
NowNaaman, captain of thehost of theking ofSyria, was agreatmanwith hismaster, andhonourable, because by him theLORD hadgivendeliverance untoSyria: he was also amightyman invalour, but he was aleper.
And theSyrians had goneout bycompanies, and had brought awaycaptive out of theland ofIsrael alittlemaid; and she waitedonNaaman'swife.
And shesaid unto hermistress,Would God mylord werewith theprophet that is inSamaria!for he wouldrecover him of hisleprosy.
And one wentin, andtold hislord, saying, Thus and thussaid themaid that is of theland ofIsrael.
And theking ofSyriasaid, Goto,go, and I willsend aletter unto theking ofIsrael. And hedeparted, andtook withhimtentalents ofsilver, andsixthousand pieces ofgold, andtenchanges ofraiment.
And hebrought theletter to theking ofIsrael, saying, Now when thisletter iscome unto thee, behold, I have therewithsentNaaman myservant to thee, that thou mayestrecover him of hisleprosy.
And it came to pass, when theking ofIsrael hadread theletter, that herent hisclothes, andsaid, Am IGod, tokill and to makealive, that thisman dothsend unto me torecover aman of hisleprosy?whereforeconsider, I pray you, andsee how he seeketh aquarrel against me.
And it was so, whenElisha theman ofGod hadheard that theking ofIsrael hadrent hisclothes, that hesent to theking, saying, Wherefore hast thourent thyclothes? let himcome now to me, and he shallknow that thereis aprophet inIsrael.
SoNaamancame with hishorses and with hischariot, andstood at thedoor of thehouse ofElisha.
AndElishasent amessenger unto him, saying,Go andwash inJordanseventimes, and thyflesh shall comeagain to thee, and thou shalt beclean.
ButNaaman waswroth, and wentaway, andsaid, Behold, Ithought, He willsurely comeout to me, andstand, andcall on thename of theLORD hisGod, andstrike hishand over theplace, andrecover theleper.
Are notAbana andPharpar, rivers ofDamascus, better than all thewaters ofIsrael? may I notwash in them, and beclean? So heturned and wentaway in arage.
And hisservants camenear, andspake unto him, andsaid, Myfather, if theprophet hadbid thee do somegreatthing, wouldest thou not havedone it? how much ratherthen, when hesaith to thee,Wash, and beclean?
Then went hedown, anddipped himselfseventimes inJordan, according to thesaying of theman ofGod: and hisflesh cameagain like unto theflesh of alittlechild, and he wasclean.
And hereturned to theman ofGod, he and all hiscompany, andcame, andstoodbefore him: and hesaid, Behold, now Iknow that there is noGod in all theearth, but inIsrael: now therefore, I pray thee, take ablessing of thyservant.
But hesaid, As theLORDliveth, before whom Istand, I willreceive none. And heurged him totake it; but herefused.
AndNaamansaid, Shall there not then, I pray thee, begiven to thyservanttwomules'burden ofearth? for thyservant will henceforthoffer neither burntoffering norsacrifice untoothergods, but unto theLORD.
In thisthing theLORDpardon thyservant, that when mymastergoeth into thehouse ofRimmon toworship there, and heleaneth on myhand, and Ibow myself in thehouse ofRimmon: when I bowdown myself in thehouse ofRimmon, theLORDpardon thyservant in thisthing.
And hesaid unto him,Go inpeace. So hedeparted from him alittleway.
ButGehazi, theservant ofElisha theman ofGod,said, Behold, mymaster hathsparedNaaman thisSyrian, in notreceiving at hishands that which hebrought: but, as theLORDliveth, I willrunafter him, andtakesomewhat of him.
SoGehazifollowedafterNaaman. And whenNaamansaw himrunningafter him, he lighteddown from thechariot tomeet him, andsaid, Is allwell?
And hesaid, All iswell. Mymaster hathsent me,saying, Behold, even now there become to me frommountEphraimtwo youngmen of thesons of theprophets:give them, I pray thee, atalent ofsilver, andtwochanges ofgarments.
AndNaamansaid, Becontent, take twotalents. And heurged him, andboundtwotalents ofsilver intwobags, withtwochanges ofgarments, andlaid them upontwo of hisservants; and theybare thembefore him.
And when hecame to thetower, hetook them from theirhand, andbestowed them in thehouse: and he let themengo, and theydeparted.
But he wentin, andstood before hismaster. AndElishasaid unto him,Whence comest thou,Gehazi? And hesaid, Thyservantwent nowhither.
And hesaid unto him,Went not mineheart with thee, when themanturned again from hischariot tomeet thee? Is it atime toreceivemoney, and toreceivegarments, andoliveyards, andvineyards, andsheep, andoxen, andmenservants, andmaidservants?
Theleprosy therefore ofNaaman shallcleave unto thee, and unto thyseed forever. And he wentout from hispresence aleper as white assnow.
