Chapter 7
KJV · Textus Receptus
ThenElishasaid,Hear ye theword of theLORD; Thussaith theLORD, Tomorrow about thistime shall ameasure of fineflour be sold for ashekel, and twomeasures ofbarley for ashekel, in thegate ofSamaria.
Then alord on whosehand thekingleanedanswered theman ofGod, andsaid, Behold, if theLORD wouldmakewindows inheaven, might thisthing be? And hesaid, Behold, thou shaltsee it with thineeyes, but shalt noteat thereof.
And there werefourleprousmen at the enteringin of thegate: and theysaidone toanother, Whysit we here until wedie?
If wesay, We willenter into thecity, then thefamine is in thecity, and we shalldie there: and if we sitstill here, wedie also. Now thereforecome, and let usfall unto thehost of theSyrians: if they save usalive, we shalllive; and if theykill us, we shall butdie.
And they roseup in thetwilight, togo unto thecamp of theSyrians: and when they werecome to the uttermostpart of thecamp ofSyria, behold, there was noman there.
For theLord had made thehost of theSyrians tohear anoise ofchariots, and anoise ofhorses, even thenoise of agreathost: and theysaidone toanother, Lo, theking ofIsrael hathhired against us thekings of theHittites, and thekings of theEgyptians, tocome upon us.
Wherefore theyarose andfled in thetwilight, andleft theirtents, and theirhorses, and theirasses, even thecamp as it was, andfled for theirlife.
And when theseleperscame to the uttermostpart of thecamp, theywent intoonetent, and dideat anddrink, andcarried thencesilver, andgold, andraiment, andwent andhid it; and cameagain, andentered intoanothertent, andcarried thence also, andwent andhid it.
Then theysaidone toanother, Wedo not well: thisday is aday of goodtidings, and we hold ourpeace: if wetarry till themorninglight, somemischief willcome upon us: now thereforecome, that we maygo andtell theking'shousehold.
So theycame andcalled unto theporter of thecity: and theytold them, saying, Wecame to thecamp of theSyrians, and, behold, there was noman there, neithervoice ofman, buthorsestied, andassestied, and thetents as they were.
And hecalled theporters; and theytold it to theking'shousewithin.
And thekingarose in thenight, andsaid unto hisservants, I will nowshew you what theSyrians havedone to us. Theyknow that we behungry; therefore are they goneout of thecamp tohide themselves in thefield, saying, When they comeout of thecity, we shallcatch themalive, andget into thecity.
Andone of hisservantsanswered andsaid, Let sometake, I pray thee, five of thehorses thatremain, which areleft in the city, (behold, they are as all themultitude ofIsrael that areleft in it: behold, I say, they are even as all themultitude of theIsraelites that areconsumed:) and let ussend andsee.
Theytook thereforetwochariothorses; and thekingsentafter thehost of theSyrians, saying,Go andsee.
And theywentafter them untoJordan: and, lo, all theway wasfull ofgarments andvessels, which theSyrians had castaway in theirhaste. And themessengersreturned, andtold theking.
And thepeople wentout, andspoiled thetents of theSyrians. So ameasure of fineflour was sold for ashekel, and twomeasures ofbarley for ashekel, according to theword of theLORD.
And thekingappointed thelord on whosehand heleaned to have the charge of thegate: and thepeopletrode upon him in thegate, and hedied, as theman ofGod hadsaid, whospake when theking camedown to him.
And it came to pass as theman ofGod hadspoken to theking, saying, Twomeasures ofbarley for ashekel, and ameasure of fineflour for ashekel, shall be tomorrow about thistime in thegate ofSamaria:
And thatlordanswered theman ofGod, andsaid, Now, behold, if theLORD shouldmakewindows inheaven, might such athing be? And hesaid, Behold, thou shaltsee it with thineeyes, but shalt noteat thereof.
And so it fell out unto him: for thepeopletrode upon him in thegate, and hedied.
