KJV · Textus Receptus
AndElisha theprophetcalledone of thechildren of theprophets, andsaid unto him, Girdup thyloins, andtake thisbox ofoil in thinehand, andgo toRamothgilead:
And when thoucomest thither, lookout thereJehu theson ofJehoshaphat theson ofNimshi, and goin, and make him ariseup fromamong hisbrethren, andcarry him to aninnerchamber;
Thentake thebox ofoil, andpour it on hishead, andsay, Thussaith theLORD, I haveanointed theeking overIsrael. Thenopen thedoor, andflee, andtarry not.
So the youngman, even the youngman theprophet,went toRamothgilead.
And when hecame, behold, thecaptains of thehost weresitting; and hesaid, I have anerrand to thee, Ocaptain. AndJehusaid, Unto which of all us? And hesaid, To thee, Ocaptain.
And hearose, andwent into thehouse; and hepoured theoil on hishead, andsaid unto him, Thussaith theLORDGod ofIsrael, I haveanointed theeking over thepeople of theLORD, even overIsrael.
And thou shaltsmite thehouse ofAhab thymaster, that I mayavenge theblood of myservants theprophets, and theblood of all theservants of theLORD, at thehand ofJezebel.
For the wholehouse ofAhab shallperish: and I will cutoff fromAhab him thatpisseth against thewall, and him that is shutup andleft inIsrael:
And I willmake thehouse ofAhab like thehouse ofJeroboam theson ofNebat, and like thehouse ofBaasha theson ofAhijah:
And thedogs shalleatJezebel in theportion ofJezreel, and there shall be none tobury her. And heopened thedoor, andfled.
ThenJehu cameforth to theservants of hislord: and onesaid unto him, Is allwell? whereforecame thismad fellow to thee? And hesaid unto them, Yeknow theman, and hiscommunication.
And theysaid, It isfalse;tell us now. And hesaid, Thus and thusspake he to me,saying, Thussaith theLORD, I haveanointed theeking overIsrael.
Then theyhasted, andtook everyman hisgarment, andput it under him on thetop of thestairs, andblew withtrumpets,saying,Jehu isking.
SoJehu theson ofJehoshaphat theson ofNimshiconspired againstJoram. (NowJoram hadkeptRamothgilead, he and allIsrael,because ofHazaelking ofSyria.
ButkingJoram wasreturned to behealed inJezreel of thewounds which theSyrians hadgiven him, when hefought withHazaelking ofSyria.) AndJehusaid, If itbe yourminds, then letnone goforth norescape out of thecity togo totell it inJezreel.
SoJehu rode in achariot, andwent toJezreel; forJoramlay there. AndAhaziahking ofJudah was comedown toseeJoram.
And therestood awatchman on thetower inJezreel, and hespied thecompany ofJehu as hecame, andsaid, Isee acompany. AndJoramsaid,Take anhorseman, andsend tomeet them, and let himsay, Is itpeace?
So therewent one onhorseback tomeet him, andsaid, Thussaith theking, Is itpeace? AndJehusaid, What hast thou to do withpeace?turn theebehind me. And thewatchmantold,saying, Themessengercame to them, but he cometh notagain.
Then he sentout asecond onhorseback, whichcame to them, andsaid, Thussaith theking, Is itpeace? AndJehuanswered, What hast thou to do withpeace?turn theebehind me.
And thewatchmantold,saying, Hecame even unto them, and cometh notagain: and thedriving is like thedriving ofJehu theson ofNimshi; for hedrivethfuriously.
AndJoramsaid, Makeready. And hischariot was madeready. AndJoramking ofIsrael andAhaziahking ofJudah wentout,each in hischariot, and they wentoutagainstJehu, andmet him in theportion ofNaboth theJezreelite.
And it came to pass, whenJoramsawJehu, that hesaid, Is itpeace,Jehu? And heanswered, Whatpeace, so longas thewhoredoms of thymotherJezebel and herwitchcrafts are somany?
AndJoramturned hishands, andfled, andsaid toAhaziah, There istreachery, OAhaziah.
AndJehu drew abow with hisfullstrength, andsmoteJehoram between hisarms, and thearrow wentout at hisheart, and he sunkdown in hischariot.
Thensaid Jehu toBidkar hiscaptain, Takeup, andcast him in theportion of thefield ofNaboth theJezreelite: forremember how that, when I and thourodetogetherafterAhab hisfather, theLORDlaid thisburden upon him;
Surely I haveseenyesterday theblood ofNaboth, and theblood of hissons,saith theLORD; and I willrequite thee in thisplat,saith theLORD. Now thereforetake andcast him into theplat of ground, according to theword of theLORD.
But whenAhaziah theking ofJudahsaw this, hefled by theway of thegardenhouse. AndJehufollowedafter him, andsaid,Smite him also in thechariot. And they did so at the goingup toGur, which is byIbleam. And hefled toMegiddo, anddied there.
And hisservantscarried him in a chariot toJerusalem, andburied him in hissepulchre with hisfathers in thecity ofDavid.
And in theeleventhyear ofJoram theson ofAhab beganAhaziah toreign overJudah.
And whenJehu wascome toJezreel,Jezebelheard of it; and shepainted herface, and looked out at a window.
And as Jehu entered in at the gate, she said, Had Zimri peace, who slew his master?
And he lifted up his face to the window, and said, Who is on my side? who? And there looked out to him two or three eunuchs.
And he said, Throw her down. So they threw her down: and some of her blood was sprinkled on the wall, and on the horses: and he trode her under foot.
And when he was come in, he did eat and drink, and said, Go, see now this cursed woman, and bury her: for she is a king's daughter.
And they went to bury her: but they found no more of her than the skull, and the feet, and the palms of her hands.
Wherefore they came again, and told him. And he said, This is the word of the LORD, which he spake by his servant Elijah the Tishbite, saying, In the portion of Jezreel shall dogs eat the flesh of Jezebel:
And the carcase of Jezebel shall be as dung upon the face of the field in the portion of Jezreel; so that they shall not say, This is Jezebel.
