AndDavidsent andenquired after thewoman. And onesaid, Is not thisBathsheba, thedaughter ofEliam, thewife ofUriah theHittite?
AndDavidsentmessengers, andtook her; and she camein unto him, and helay with her; for she waspurified from heruncleanness: and shereturned unto herhouse.
And thewomanconceived, andsent andtoldDavid, andsaid, I am withchild.
And whenUriah wascome unto him,Daviddemanded of him howJoabdid, and how thepeopledid, and how thewarprospered.
AndDavidsaid toUriah, Godown to thyhouse, andwash thyfeet. AndUriah departedout of theking'shouse, and therefollowed him amess of meat from theking.
ButUriahslept at thedoor of theking'shouse with all theservants of hislord, and went notdown to hishouse.
And when they hadtoldDavid, saying,Uriah went notdown unto hishouse,Davidsaid untoUriah,Camest thou not from thyjourney? why then didst thou not godown unto thinehouse?
AndUriahsaid untoDavid, Theark, andIsrael, andJudah, abide intents; and mylordJoab, and theservants of mylord, areencamped in theopenfields; shallI thengo into minehouse, toeat and todrink, and tolie with mywife? as thoulivest, and as thysoulliveth, I will notdo thisthing.

And whenDavid hadcalled him, he dideat anddrinkbefore him; and he made himdrunk: and ateven he wentout tolie on hisbed with theservants of hislord, but went notdown to hishouse.
And it came to pass in themorning, thatDavidwrote aletter toJoab, andsent it by thehand ofUriah.
And hewrote in theletter, saying,Set yeUriah in theforefront of thehottestbattle, andretire ye fromhim, that he may besmitten, anddie.
And it came to pass, whenJoabobserved thecity, that heassignedUriah unto aplace where heknew thatvaliantmen were.
And themen of thecity wentout, andfought withJoab: and therefell some of thepeople of theservants ofDavid; andUriah theHittitedied also.
ThenJoabsent andtoldDavid all thethings concerning thewar;
Andcharged themessenger, saying, When thou hast made anend oftelling thematters of thewar unto theking,
And if so be that theking'swratharise, and hesay unto thee, Wherefore approached ye sonigh unto thecity when ye didfight?knew ye not that they wouldshoot from thewall?
WhosmoteAbimelech theson ofJerubbesheth? did not awomancast apiece of amillstone upon him from thewall, that hedied inThebez? why went yenigh thewall? thensay thou, ThyservantUriah theHittite isdead also.
So themessengerwent, andcame andshewedDavid all thatJoab hadsent him for.
And themessengersaid untoDavid, Surely themenprevailed against us, and cameout unto us into thefield, and we were upon them even unto theentering of thegate.
And theshootersshot from off thewall upon thyservants; and some of theking'sservants bedead, and thyservantUriah theHittite isdead also.
ThenDavidsaid unto themessenger, Thus shalt thousay untoJoab, Let not thisthingdisplease thee, for thesworddevoureth one as well asanother: make thybattle morestrong against thecity, andoverthrow it: andencourage thou him.
And when thewife ofUriahheard thatUriah herhusband wasdead, shemourned for herhusband.
And when themourning waspast,Davidsent andfetched her to hishouse, and she became hiswife, andbare him ason. But thething thatDavid haddonedispleased theLORD.
