Thus hath theLordGODshewed unto me; and, behold, heformedgrasshoppers in thebeginning of the shootingup of the lattergrowth; and, lo, it was the lattergrowthafter theking's mowings.
2 And it came to pass, that when they had made anend ofeating thegrass of theland, then Isaid, OLordGOD,forgive, I beseech thee: by whom shallJacobarise? for he is small.
3 TheLORDrepented for this: It shall not be,saith the LORD.
4 Thus hath theLordGODshewed unto me: and, behold, theLordGODcalled tocontend byfire, and itdevoured thegreatdeep, and did eatup a part.
5 Thensaid I, OLordGOD,cease, I beseech thee: by whom shallJacobarise? for he is small.
6 TheLORDrepented for this: This also shall not be,saith theLord GOD.
7 Thus heshewed me: and, behold, theLordstood upon awall made by aplumbline, with aplumbline in his hand.
8 And theLORDsaid unto me,Amos, whatseest thou? And Isaid, Aplumbline. Thensaid theLord, Behold, I willset aplumbline in themidst of mypeopleIsrael: I will notagain pass by them any more:
9 And the highplaces ofIsaac shall bedesolate, and thesanctuaries ofIsrael shall be laidwaste; and I willrise against thehouse ofJeroboam with the sword.
10 ThenAmaziah thepriest ofBethelsent toJeroboamking ofIsrael,saying,Amos hathconspired against thee in themidst of thehouse ofIsrael: theland is notable tobear all his words.
11 For thusAmossaith,Jeroboam shalldie by thesword, andIsrael shallsurely be led awaycaptive out of their own land.
12 AlsoAmaziahsaid untoAmos, O thouseer,go, flee theeaway into theland ofJudah, and thereeatbread, and prophesy there:
13 Butprophesy notagain any more atBethel: for it is theking'schapel, and it is theking's court.
14 ThenansweredAmos, andsaid toAmaziah, I was noprophet, neither was I aprophet'sson; but I was anherdman, and agatherer of sycomore fruit:
15 And theLORDtook me as Ifollowed theflock, and theLORDsaid unto me,Go,prophesy unto mypeople Israel.
16 Now thereforehear thou theword of theLORD: Thousayest,Prophesy not againstIsrael, anddrop not thy word against thehouse of Isaac.
17 Therefore thussaith theLORD; Thywife shall be anharlot in thecity, and thysons and thydaughters shallfall by thesword, and thyland shall bedivided byline; and thou shaltdiein apollutedland: andIsrael shallsurely go intocaptivity forth of his land.
