Chapter 3
KJV · Textus Receptus
Nebuchadnezzar thekingmade animage ofgold, whoseheight wasthreescorecubits, and thebreadth thereofsixcubits: he set itup in theplain ofDura, in theprovince of Babylon.
ThenNebuchadnezzar thekingsent to gathertogether theprinces, thegovernors, and thecaptains, thejudges, thetreasurers, thecounsellors, thesheriffs, andall therulers of theprovinces, tocome to thededication of theimage whichNebuchadnezzar theking had set up.
Then theprinces, thegovernors, andcaptains, thejudges, thetreasurers, thecounsellors, thesheriffs, andall therulers of theprovinces, were gatheredtogether unto thededication of theimage thatNebuchadnezzar theking had setup; and theystoodbefore theimage thatNebuchadnezzar had set up.
Then anheraldcriedaloud, To you it iscommanded, Opeople, nations, and languages,
That at whattime yehear thesound of thecornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, dulcimer, andallkinds ofmusick, ye falldown andworship thegoldenimage thatNebuchadnezzar theking hath set up:
Andwhosofallethnotdown andworshippeth shall the samehour becast into themidst of aburningfiery furnace.
Therefore at thattime, whenall thepeopleheard thesound of thecornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, andallkinds ofmusick, all thepeople, thenations, and thelanguages, felldown andworshipped thegoldenimage thatNebuchadnezzar theking had set up.
Wherefore atthattimecertainChaldeans camenear, andaccused the Jews.
Theyspake andsaid to thekingNebuchadnezzar, Oking, live for ever.
Thou, Oking, hastmade adecree, thateveryman that shallhear thesound of thecornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, anddulcimer, andallkinds ofmusick, shall falldown andworship thegolden image:
Andwhosofallethnotdown andworshippeth, that he should becast into themidst of aburningfiery furnace.
TherearecertainJewswhom thou hastsetover theaffairs of theprovince ofBabylon,Shadrach,Meshach, andAbednego;thesemen, Oking, havenotregardedthee: theyservenot thygods, norworship thegoldenimage which thou hast set up.
ThenNebuchadnezzar in hisrage andfurycommanded tobringShadrach,Meshach, andAbednego. Then theybroughtthesemenbefore the king.
Nebuchadnezzarspake andsaid unto them, Is ittrue, OShadrach,Meshach, andAbednego, donotyeserve mygods, norworship thegoldenimage which I have set up?
Nowif yebeready that at whattime yehear thesound of thecornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, anddulcimer, andallkinds ofmusick, ye falldown andworship theimage which I havemade; well: butif yeworshipnot, ye shall becast the samehour into themidst of aburningfieryfurnace; andwho is thatGod that shalldeliver you outof my hands?
Shadrach,Meshach, andAbednego, answered andsaid to theking, ONebuchadnezzar,we arenotcareful toanswer theeinthis matter.
If it be so, ourGod whomweserveisable todeliver usfrom theburningfieryfurnace, and he willdeliver us outof thinehand, O king.
Butifnot, beitknown unto thee, Oking, that wewillnotserve thygods, norworship thegoldenimage which thou hast set up.
Then wasNebuchadnezzarfull offury, and theform of hisvisage waschangedagainstShadrach,Meshach, andAbednego: therefore hespake, andcommanded that they shouldheat thefurnaceone seventimesmorethan it waswont to be heated.
And hecommanded themostmightymen that were in hisarmy tobindShadrach,Meshach, andAbednego, and tocast them into theburningfiery furnace.
Thenthesemen werebound in theircoats, theirhosen, and theirhats, and their othergarments, and werecast into themidst of theburningfiery furnace.
Thereforebecause theking'scommandment wasurgent, and thefurnaceexceedinghot, theflame of thefireslewthosemen that tookupShadrach,Meshach, and Abednego.
Andthesethreemen,Shadrach,Meshach, andAbednego, felldownbound into themidst of theburningfiery furnace.
ThenNebuchadnezzar theking wasastonied, and roseup inhaste, andspake, andsaid unto hiscounsellors, Didnot wecastthreemenbound into themidst of thefire? Theyanswered andsaid unto theking,True, O king.
Heanswered andsaid,Lo,Iseefourmenloose, walking in themidst of thefire, and theyhavenohurt; and theform of thefourth islike theSon of God.
ThenNebuchadnezzar camenear to themouth of theburningfieryfurnace, andspake, andsaid,Shadrach,Meshach, andAbednego, yeservants of the mosthighGod, comeforth, andcome hither.ThenShadrach,Meshach, andAbednego, cameforthof themidst of the fire.
And theprinces, governors, andcaptains, and theking'scounsellors, being gatheredtogether, sawthesemen, upon whosebodies thefire hadnopower, nor was anhair of theirheadsinged, neither were theircoatschanged, nor thesmell offire had passed on them.
ThenNebuchadnezzarspake, andsaid,Blessed be theGod ofShadrach,Meshach, andAbednego, who hathsent hisangel, anddelivered hisservants thattrusted inhim, and havechanged theking'sword, andyielded theirbodies, that they mightnotservenorworshipanygod, except their own God.
ThereforeImake adecree, Thateverypeople, nation, andlanguage, whichspeak any thingamissagainst theGod ofShadrach,Meshach, andAbednego, shall becut inpieces, and theirhouses shall bemade adunghill:because thereisnootherGod thatcandeliver after this sort.
Then thekingpromotedShadrach,Meshach, andAbednego, in theprovince of Babylon.
