Deuteronomy
Chapter 18
KJV · Textus Receptus
Thepriests theLevites, and all thetribe ofLevi, shall have nopart norinheritance withIsrael: they shalleat theofferings of theLORD made byfire, and his inheritance.
Therefore shall they have noinheritanceamong theirbrethren: theLORD is theirinheritance, as he hath said unto them.
And this shall be thepriest'sdue from thepeople, from them thatoffer asacrifice, whether it beox orsheep; and they shallgive unto thepriest theshoulder, and the twocheeks, and the maw.
Thefirstfruit also of thycorn, of thywine, and of thineoil, and thefirst of thefleece of thysheep, shalt thou give him.
For theLORD thyGod hathchosen him out of all thytribes, tostand tominister in thename of theLORD, him and hissons for ever.
And if aLevitecome fromany of thygates out of allIsrael, where hesojourned, andcome with all thedesire of hismind unto theplace which theLORD shall choose;
Then he shallminister in thename of theLORD hisGod, as all hisbrethren theLevites do, whichstand therebefore the LORD.
They shall have likeportions toeat, beside that which cometh of thesale of his patrimony.
When thou artcome into theland which theLORD thyGodgiveth thee, thou shalt notlearn todo after theabominations of those nations.
There shall not befound among you any one that maketh hisson or hisdaughter topass through thefire, or thatusethdivination, or an observer oftimes, or anenchanter, or a witch,
Or acharmer, or aconsulter with familiarspirits, or awizard, or anecromancer.
For all thatdo these things are anabomination unto theLORD: andbecause of theseabominations theLORD thyGod doth drive themout from before thee.
Thou shalt beperfect with theLORD thy God.
For thesenations, which thou shaltpossess,hearkened unto observers oftimes, and untodiviners: but as for thee, theLORD thyGod hath not suffered thee so to do.
TheLORD thyGod will raiseup unto thee aProphet from themidst of thee, of thybrethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken;
According to all that thoudesiredst of theLORD thyGod inHoreb in theday of theassembly,saying, Let me nothearagain thevoice of theLORD myGod, neither let mesee thisgreatfire any more, that I die not.
And theLORDsaid unto me, They havewell spoken that which they have spoken.
I will raise themup aProphet fromamong theirbrethren, like unto thee, and willput mywords in hismouth; and he shallspeak unto them all that I shall command him.
And it shall come to pass, thatwhosoever will nothearken unto mywords which he shallspeak in myname, I will require it of him.
But theprophet, which shallpresume tospeak aword in myname, which I have notcommanded him tospeak, or that shallspeak in thename ofothergods, even thatprophet shall die.
And if thousay in thineheart, How shall weknow theword which theLORD hath not spoken?
When aprophetspeaketh in thename of theLORD, if thething follow not, nor come topass, that is thething which theLORD hath notspoken, but theprophet hathspoken itpresumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.
