Deuteronomy
Chapter 2
KJV · Textus Receptus
Then weturned, and took ourjourney into thewilderness by theway of theRedsea, as theLORDspake unto me: and wecompassedmountSeirmany days.
And theLORDspake unto me, saying,
Ye havecompassed thismountain longenough:turn you northward.
Andcommand thou thepeople,saying, Ye are topass through thecoast of yourbrethren thechildren ofEsau, whichdwell inSeir; and they shall beafraid of you: take yegood heed unto yourselves therefore:
Meddle not with them; for I will notgive you of theirland, no, not so much as afootbreadth; because I havegivenmountSeir untoEsau for a possession.
Ye shallbuymeat of them formoney, that ye mayeat; and ye shall alsobuywater of them formoney, that ye may drink.
For theLORD thyGod hathblessed thee in all theworks of thyhand: heknoweth thywalking through thisgreatwilderness: thesefortyyears theLORD thyGod hath been with thee; thou hastlacked nothing.
And when wepassed by from ourbrethren thechildren ofEsau, whichdwelt inSeir, through theway of theplain fromElath, and fromEziongaber, weturned andpassed by theway of thewilderness of Moab.
And theLORDsaid unto me,Distress not theMoabites, neithercontend with them inbattle: for I will notgive thee of theirland for apossession; because I havegivenAr unto thechildren ofLot for a possession.
TheEmimsdwelt therein in timespast, apeoplegreat, andmany, andtall, as the Anakims;
Which also wereaccountedgiants, as theAnakims; but theMoabitescall them Emims.
TheHorims alsodwelt inSeirbeforetime; but thechildren ofEsausucceeded them, when they haddestroyed them frombefore them, anddwelt in their stead; asIsraeldid unto theland of hispossession, which theLORD gave unto them.
Now riseup, said I, and get youover thebrookZered. And we wentover thebrook Zered.
And thespace in which wecame fromKadeshbarnea, until we were comeover thebrookZered, wasthirty andeightyears; until all thegeneration of themen ofwar were wastedout fromamong thehost, as theLORD sware unto them.
For indeed thehand of theLORD was against them, todestroy them fromamong thehost, until they were consumed.
So it came to pass, when all themen ofwar wereconsumed anddead fromamong the people,
That theLORDspake unto me, saying,
Thou art to passover throughAr, thecoast ofMoab, this day:
And when thou comestnigh overagainst thechildren ofAmmon,distress them not, normeddle with them: for I will notgive thee of theland of thechildren ofAmmon anypossession; because I havegiven it unto thechildren ofLot for a possession.
(That also wasaccounted aland ofgiants:giantsdwelt therein in oldtime; and theAmmonitescall them Zamzummims;
Apeoplegreat, andmany, andtall, as theAnakims; but theLORDdestroyed thembefore them; and theysucceeded them, and dwelt in their stead:
As hedid to thechildren ofEsau, whichdwelt inSeir, when hedestroyed theHorims frombefore them; and theysucceeded them, anddwelt in their stead even unto this day:
And theAvims whichdwelt inHazerim, even untoAzzah, theCaphtorims, which cameforth out ofCaphtor,destroyed them, and dwelt in their stead.)
Rise yeup, take yourjourney, and passover theriverArnon:behold, I havegiven into thinehandSihon theAmorite,king ofHeshbon, and hisland:begin topossess it, andcontend with him in battle.
Thisday will Ibegin toput thedread of thee and thefear of thee upon thenations that are under the wholeheaven, who shallhearreport of thee, and shalltremble, and be inanguish because of thee.
And Isentmessengers out of thewilderness ofKedemoth untoSihonking ofHeshbon withwords ofpeace, saying,
Let mepass through thyland: I willgo along by the highway, I will neitherturn unto the righthand nor to the left.
Thou shaltsell memeat formoney, that I mayeat; andgive mewater formoney, that I maydrink: only I will passthrough on my feet;
(As thechildren ofEsau whichdwell inSeir, and theMoabites whichdwell inAr,did unto me;) until I shall passoverJordan into theland which theLORD ourGod giveth us.
ButSihonking ofHeshbonwould not let uspass by him: for theLORD thyGodhardened hisspirit, and made hisheartobstinate, that he mightdeliver him into thyhand, as appeareth this day.
And theLORDsaid unto me,Behold, I havebegun togiveSihon and hislandbefore thee:begin topossess, that thou mayestinherit his land.
ThenSihon cameoutagainst us, he and all hispeople, tofight at Jahaz.
And theLORD ourGoddelivered himbefore us; and wesmote him, and hissons, and all his people.
And wetook all hiscities at thattime, and utterlydestroyed themen, and thewomen, and the littleones, of everycity, weleft none to remain:
Only thecattle we took for aprey unto ourselves, and thespoil of thecities which we took.
FromAroer, which is by thebrink of theriver ofArnon, and from thecity that is by theriver, even untoGilead, there was not onecity toostrong for us: theLORD ourGoddelivered all unto us:
Only unto theland of thechildren ofAmmon thoucamest not, nor unto anyplace of theriverJabbok, nor unto thecities in themountains, nor unto whatsoever the LORD our God forbad us.
