Chapter 21
KJV · Textus Receptus
If one befoundslain in theland which theLORD thyGodgiveth thee topossess it,lying in thefield, and it be notknown who hath slain him:
Then thyelders and thyjudges shall comeforth, and they shallmeasure unto thecities which are roundabout him that is slain:
And it shall be, that thecity which isnext unto the slainman, even theelders of thatcity shalltake anheifer, which hath not been wroughtwith, and which hath notdrawn in the yoke;
And theelders of thatcity shall bringdown theheifer unto aroughvalley, which is neithereared norsown, and shall strikeoff theheifer'sneck there in the valley:
And thepriests thesons ofLevi shall comenear; for them theLORD thyGod hathchosen tominister unto him, and tobless in thename of theLORD; and by theirword shall everycontroversy and every stroke be tried:
And all theelders of thatcity, that arenext unto theslain man, shallwash theirhands over theheifer that isbeheaded in the valley:
And they shallanswer andsay, Ourhands have notshed thisblood, neither have oureyes seen it.
Bemerciful, OLORD, unto thypeopleIsrael, whom thou hastredeemed, andlay notinnocentblood unto thypeople ofIsrael'scharge. And theblood shall be forgiven them.
So shalt thou putaway the guilt ofinnocentblood fromamong you, when thou shaltdo that which isright in thesight of the LORD.
When thou goestforth towar against thineenemies, and theLORD thyGod hathdelivered them into thinehands, and thou hasttaken them captive,
Andseest among thecaptives abeautifulwoman, and hast adesire unto her, that thou wouldest haveher to thy wife;
Then thou shaltbring herhome to thinehouse; and she shallshave herhead, andpare her nails;
And she shallput theraiment of hercaptivity from off her, and shallremain in thinehouse, andbewail herfather and hermother afullmonth: andafter that thou shaltgo in unto her, and be herhusband, and she shall be thy wife.
And it shall be, if thou have nodelight in her, then thou shalt let hergo whither shewill; but thou shalt notsell her atall formoney, thou shalt not makemerchandise of her,because thou hast humbled her.
If aman havetwowives,onebeloved, andanotherhated, and they haveborn himchildren, both thebeloved and thehated; and if thefirstbornson be hers that was hated:
Then it shall be,when he maketh hissons toinherit that which he hath, that hemay not make theson of thebelovedfirstbornbefore theson of thehated, which is indeed the firstborn:
But he shallacknowledge theson of thehated for thefirstborn, bygiving him adoubleportion of all that hehath: for he is thebeginning of hisstrength; theright of the firstborn is his.
If aman have astubborn andrebelliousson, which will notobey thevoice of hisfather, or thevoice of hismother, and that, when they havechastened him, will not hearken unto them:
Then shall hisfather and hismother layhold on him, and bring himout unto theelders of hiscity, and unto thegate of his place;
And they shallsay unto theelders of hiscity, This ourson isstubborn andrebellious, he will notobey ourvoice; he is aglutton, and a drunkard.
And all themen of hiscity shallstone him withstones, that hedie: so shalt thouputevilaway fromamong you; and allIsrael shallhear, and fear.
And if aman have committed asin worthyofdeath, and he be to be put todeath, and thouhang him on a tree:
Hisbody shall not remain allnight upon thetree, but thou shalt in anywisebury him thatday; (for he that ishanged isaccursed ofGod;) that thyland be notdefiled, which theLORD thyGodgiveth thee for an inheritance.
