Chapter 3
KJV · Textus Receptus
Then weturned, and wentup theway toBashan: andOg theking ofBashan cameoutagainst us, he and all hispeople, tobattle at Edrei.
And theLORDsaid unto me,Fear him not: for I willdeliver him, and all hispeople, and hisland, into thyhand; and thou shaltdo unto him as thoudidst untoSihonking of theAmorites, whichdwelt at Heshbon.
So theLORD ourGoddelivered into ourhandsOg also, theking ofBashan, and all hispeople: and wesmote him until none wasleft to him remaining.
And wetook all hiscities at thattime, there was not acity which wetook not from them,threescorecities, all theregion ofArgob, thekingdom ofOg in Bashan.
All thesecities werefenced withhighwalls,gates, andbars; besideunwalledtowns agreat many.
And we utterlydestroyed them, as wedid untoSihonking ofHeshbon, utterlydestroying themen,women, andchildren, of every city.
But all thecattle, and thespoil of thecities, we took for a prey to ourselves.
And wetook at thattimeout of thehand of thetwokings of theAmorites theland that was on thissideJordan, from theriver ofArnon untomount Hermon;
(WhichHermon theSidonianscallSirion; and theAmoritescall it Shenir;)
All thecities of theplain, and allGilead, and allBashan, untoSalchah andEdrei,cities of thekingdom ofOg in Bashan.
For onlyOgking ofBashanremained of theremnant ofgiants; behold, hisbedstead was abedstead ofiron; is itnot inRabbath of thechildren ofAmmon?ninecubits was thelength thereof, andfourcubits thebreadth of it, after thecubit of a man.
And thisland, which wepossessed at thattime, fromAroer, which is by theriverArnon, andhalfmountGilead, and thecities thereof,gave I unto theReubenites and to the Gadites.
And therest ofGilead, and allBashan, being thekingdom ofOg,gave I unto thehalftribe ofManasseh; all theregion ofArgob, with allBashan,which wascalled theland of giants.
Jair theson ofManassehtook all thecountry ofArgob unto thecoasts ofGeshuri andMaachathi; andcalled them after his ownname,Bashanhavothjair, unto this day.
And IgaveGilead unto Machir.
And unto theReubenites and unto theGadites Igave fromGilead even unto theriverArnonhalf thevalley, and theborder even unto theriverJabbok, which is theborder of thechildren of Ammon;
Theplain also, andJordan, and thecoast thereof, fromChinnereth even unto thesea of theplain, even thesaltsea, underAshdothpisgah eastward.
And Icommanded you at thattime,saying, TheLORD yourGod hathgiven you thisland topossess it: ye shall passoverarmedbefore yourbrethren thechildren ofIsrael, all that aremeet for the war.
But yourwives, and your littleones, and yourcattle, (for Iknow that ye havemuchcattle,) shallabide in yourcities which I have given you;
Until theLORD have givenrest unto yourbrethren, as well as unto you, and until they alsopossess theland which theLORD yourGod hathgiven thembeyondJordan: and then shall yereturn everyman unto hispossession, which I have given you.
And IcommandedJoshua at thattime,saying, Thineeyes haveseen all that theLORD yourGod hathdone unto thesetwokings: so shall theLORDdo unto all thekingdoms whither thou passest.
Ye shall notfear them: for theLORD yourGod he shall fight for you.
And Ibesought theLORD at thattime, saying,
OLordGOD, thou hastbegun toshew thyservant thygreatness, and thymightyhand: for whatGod is there inheaven or inearth, that cando according to thyworks, and according to thy might?
I pray thee, let me goover, andsee thegoodland that isbeyondJordan, thatgoodlymountain, and Lebanon.
But theLORD waswroth with me for your sakes, and would nothear me: and theLORDsaid unto me, Let itsuffice thee;speak nomore unto me of this matter.
Get theeup into thetop ofPisgah, and liftup thineeyeswestward, andnorthward, andsouthward, andeastward, andbehold it with thineeyes: for thou shalt not goover this Jordan.
ButchargeJoshua, andencourage him, andstrengthen him: for he shall gooverbefore thispeople, and he shall cause them toinherit theland which thou shalt see.
