Ecclesiastes
Chapter 3
KJV · Textus Receptus
To every thing there is aseason, and atime to everypurpose under the heaven:
Atime to beborn, and atime todie; atime toplant, and atime to pluckup that which is planted;
Atime tokill, and atime toheal; atime to breakdown, and atime to build up;
Atime toweep, and atime tolaugh; atime tomourn, and atime to dance;
Atime to castawaystones, and atime togatherstonestogether; atime toembrace, and atime torefrain from embracing;
Atime toget, and atime tolose; atime tokeep, and atime to cast away;
Atime torend, and atime tosew; atime to keepsilence, and atime to speak;
Atime tolove, and atime tohate; atime ofwar, and atime of peace.
Whatprofit hath he thatworketh in thatwherein he laboureth?
I haveseen thetravail, whichGod hathgiven to thesons ofmen to be exercised in it.
He hathmade every thingbeautiful in histime: also he hathset theworld in theirheart, sothat noman can findout thework thatGodmaketh from thebeginning to the end.
Iknow that there is nogood in them, but for a man torejoice, and todogood in his life.
And also that everyman shouldeat anddrink, andenjoy thegood of all hislabour, it is thegift of God.
Iknow that, whatsoeverGoddoeth, it shall be forever:nothing can beput to it, nor any thingtaken from it: andGoddoeth it, that men shouldfear before him.
That which hath been isnow; and that which is to be hathalready been; andGodrequireth that which is past.
And moreover Isaw under thesun theplace ofjudgment, thatwickedness was there; and theplace ofrighteousness, that iniquity was there.
Isaid in mineheart,God shalljudge therighteous and thewicked: for there is atime there for everypurpose and for every work.
Isaid in mineheart concerning theestate of thesons ofmen, thatGod mightmanifest them, and that they mightsee thatthey themselves are beasts.
For that whichbefalleth thesons ofmenbefallethbeasts; even onethingbefalleth them: as the onedieth, sodieth theother; yea, they have allonebreath; so that aman hath nopreeminence above abeast: for all is vanity.
Allgo untooneplace; all are of thedust, and allturn todust again.
Whoknoweth thespirit ofman thatgoethupward, and thespirit of thebeast thatgoethdownward to the earth?
Wherefore Iperceive that there is nothingbetter, than that aman shouldrejoice in his ownworks; for that is hisportion: for who shallbring him tosee what shall be after him?
