A goodname isbetter thanpreciousointment; and theday ofdeath than theday of one's birth.
2 It isbetter togo to thehouse ofmourning, than togo to thehouse offeasting:for that is theend of allmen; and theliving willlay it to his heart.
3Sorrow isbetter thanlaughter: for by thesadness of thecountenance theheart is made better.
4 Theheart of thewise is in thehouse ofmourning; but theheart offools is in thehouse of mirth.
5 It isbetter tohear therebuke of thewise, than for aman tohear thesong of fools.
6 For as thecrackling ofthorns under apot, so is thelaughter of thefool: this also is vanity.
7 Surelyoppression maketh a wisemanmad; and agiftdestroyeth the heart.
8Better is theend of athing than thebeginning thereof: and thepatient inspirit isbetter than theproud in spirit.
9 Be nothasty in thyspirit to beangry: forangerresteth in thebosom of fools.
10Say not thou, What is the cause that theformerdays werebetter than these? for thou dost notenquire wisely concerning this.
11Wisdom isgood with aninheritance: and by it there isprofit to them thatsee the sun.
12 Forwisdom is adefence, andmoney is adefence: but theexcellency ofknowledge is, thatwisdom givethlife to them that have it.
13Consider thework ofGod: for whocan make thatstraight, which he hath made crooked?
14 In theday ofprosperity bejoyful, but in theday ofadversityconsider:God also hathset the one overagainst the other, to theend thatman shouldfindnothing after him.
15 All things have Iseen in thedays of myvanity: thereis ajust man thatperisheth in hisrighteousness, and there is awicked man thatprolongeth his life in his wickedness.
16 Be notrighteous overmuch; neither make thyselfoverwise: why shouldest thou destroy thyself?
17 Be not overmuchwicked, neither be thoufoolish: why shouldest thoudie before thy time?
18 It isgood that thou shouldest takehold of this; yea, also fromthiswithdraw not thinehand: for he thatfearethGod shall come forth of them all.
19Wisdomstrengtheneth thewise more thantenmighty men which are in the city.
20 For there is not ajustman uponearth, thatdoethgood, and sinneth not.
22 Foroftentimes also thine ownheartknoweth that thou thyself likewise hastcursed others.
23 Allthis have Iproved bywisdom: Isaid, I will bewise; but it was far from me.
24 That which is faroff, and exceedingdeep, who can find it out?
25 Iapplied mineheart toknow, and tosearch, and to seekoutwisdom, and thereason of things, and toknow thewickedness offolly, even offoolishness and madness:
26 And Ifind morebitter thandeath thewoman, whoseheart issnares andnets, and herhands asbands: whosopleasethGod shallescape from her; but thesinner shall be taken by her.
27Behold, this have Ifound,saith thepreacher, countingone byone, to findout the account:
28 Which yet mysoulseeketh, but Ifind not:oneman among athousand have Ifound; but awoman among all those have I not found.
29Lo, thisonly have Ifound, thatGod hathmademanupright; but they have soughtoutmany inventions.
