And therewent aman of thehouse ofLevi, andtook to wife adaughter of Levi.
2 And thewomanconceived, andbare ason: and when shesaw him that he was agoodly child, shehid himthree months.
3 And when shecould notlongerhide him, shetook for him anark ofbulrushes, anddaubed it withslime and withpitch, andput thechild therein; and shelaid it in theflags by theriver's brink.
4 And hissisterstood afaroff, towit what would be done to him.
5 And thedaughter ofPharaoh camedown towash herself at theriver; and hermaidenswalked along by theriver'sside; and when shesaw thearkamong theflags, shesent hermaid to fetch it.
6 And when she hadopened it, shesaw thechild: and, behold, thebabewept. And she hadcompassion on him, andsaid, This is one of theHebrews' children.
7 Thensaid hissister toPharaoh'sdaughter, Shall Igo andcall to thee anurse of theHebrewwomen, that she maynurse the child for thee?
8 AndPharaoh'sdaughtersaid to her,Go. And themaidwent andcalled thechild's mother.
9 AndPharaoh'sdaughtersaid unto her,Take thischildaway, andnurse it for me, and I willgive thee thywages. And thewomantook thechild, and nursed it.
10 And thechildgrew, and shebrought him untoPharaoh'sdaughter, and he became herson. And shecalled hisnameMoses: and shesaid, Because Idrew him out of the water.
11 And it came to pass in thosedays, whenMoses wasgrown, that he wentout unto hisbrethren, andlooked on theirburdens: and hespied anEgyptiansmiting anHebrew, one of his brethren.
12 And helooked thisway and thatway, and when hesaw that there was noman, heslew theEgyptian, andhid him in the sand.
13 And when he wentout thesecondday, behold,twomen of theHebrewsstrove together: and hesaid to him that did thewrong, Whereforesmitest thou thy fellow?
14 And hesaid, Whomadethee aprince and ajudge over us?intendest thou tokill me, as thoukilledst theEgyptian? AndMosesfeared, andsaid,Surely thisthing is known.
15 Now whenPharaohheard thisthing, hesought toslayMoses. ButMosesfled from theface ofPharaoh, anddwelt in theland ofMidian: and he satdown by a well.
16 Now thepriest ofMidian hadsevendaughters: and theycame anddrew water, andfilled thetroughs towater theirfather's flock.
17 And theshepherdscame and drove themaway: butMoses stoodup andhelped them, andwatered their flock.
18 And when theycame toReuel theirfather, hesaid,How is it that ye arecome sosoon to day?
19 And theysaid, AnEgyptiandelivered us out of thehand of theshepherds, and alsodrew waterenough for us, andwatered the flock.
20 And hesaid unto hisdaughters, And where is he? why is it that ye haveleft theman?call him, that he mayeat bread.
21 AndMoses wascontent todwell with theman: and hegaveMosesZipporah his daughter.
22 And shebare him ason, and hecalled hisnameGershom: for hesaid, I have been astranger in astrange land.
23 And it came to pass inprocess oftime, that theking ofEgyptdied: and thechildren ofIsraelsighed by reasonof thebondage, and theycried, and theircry cameup untoGod by reason of the bondage.
24 AndGodheard theirgroaning, andGodremembered hiscovenant withAbraham, withIsaac, and with Jacob.
25 AndGodlooked upon thechildren ofIsrael, andGod had respect unto them.
