Now these are thejudgments which thou shaltset before them.
2 If thoubuy anHebrewservant,sixyears he shallserve: and in theseventh he shall gooutfree for nothing.
3 If he camein byhimself, he shall goout byhimself: if he weremarried, then hiswife shall go out with him.
4 If hismaster havegiven him awife, and she haveborn himsons ordaughters; thewife and herchildren shall be hermaster's, and he shall goout by himself.
5 And if theservant shallplainlysay, Ilove mymaster, mywife, and mychildren; I will not goout free:
6 Then hismaster shallbring him unto thejudges; he shall alsobring him to thedoor, or unto the doorpost; and hismaster shallbore hisear through with anaul; and he shallserve him for ever.
7 And if amansell hisdaughter to be amaidservant, she shall not goout as themenservants do.
8 If sheplease not hermaster, who hathbetrothed her to himself, then shall he let her beredeemed: tosell her unto astrangenation he shall have nopower, seeing he hath dealt deceitfully with her.
9 And if he havebetrothed her unto hisson, he shalldeal with her after themanner of daughters.
10 If hetake himanother wife; herfood, herraiment, and her duty ofmarriage, shall he not diminish.
11 And if hedo not thesethree unto her, then shall she gooutfree without money.
12 He thatsmiteth aman, so that hedie, shall besurely put to death.
13 And if a man lie not inwait, butGoddeliver him into hishand; then I willappoint thee aplace whither he shall flee.
14 But if aman comepresumptuously upon hisneighbour, toslay him withguile; thou shalttake him from minealtar, that he may die.
15 And he thatsmiteth hisfather, or hismother, shall besurely put to death.
16 And he thatstealeth aman, andselleth him, or if he befound in hishand, he shallsurely be put to death.
17 And he thatcurseth hisfather, or hismother, shallsurely be put to death.
18 And ifmenstrive together, andonesmiteanother with astone,or with hisfist, and hedie not, butkeepeth his bed:
19 If he riseagain, andwalkabroad upon hisstaff, then shall he thatsmote him bequit: only he shallpay for the loss of histime, and shall cause him to bethoroughly healed.
20 And if amansmite hisservant, or hismaid, with arod, and hedie under hishand; he shall besurely punished.
21Notwithstanding, if hecontinue aday ortwo, he shall not bepunished: for he is his money.
22 Ifmenstrive, andhurt awoman withchild, so that herfruitdepart from her, and yet no mischieffollow: he shall besurelypunished, according as thewoman'shusband willlay upon him; and he shallpay as the judges determine.
23 And if any mischieffollow, then thou shaltgivelife for life,
24Eye foreye,tooth fortooth,hand forhand,foot for foot,
25Burning forburning,wound forwound,stripe for stripe.
26 And if amansmite theeye of hisservant, or theeye of hismaid, that itperish; he shall let himgofreefor his eye's sake.
27 And if hesmite out hismanservant'stooth, or hismaidservant'stooth; he shall let himgofree for his tooth's sake.
28 If anoxgore aman or awoman, that theydie: then theox shall besurelystoned, and hisflesh shall not beeaten; but theowner of theox shall be quit.
29 But if theox were wont to push with hishorn in timepast, and it hath beentestified to hisowner, and he hath notkept him in, but that he hathkilled aman or awoman; theox shall bestoned, and hisowner also shall be put to death.
30 If there belaid on him a sum ofmoney, then he shallgive for theransom of hislife whatsoever is laid upon him.
31 Whether he havegored ason,or havegored adaughter, according to thisjudgment shall it be done unto him.
32 If theox shallpush amanservant or amaidservant; he shallgive unto theirmasterthirtyshekels ofsilver, and theox shall be stoned.
33 And if aman shallopen apit, or if aman shalldig apit, and notcover it, and anox or anass fall therein;
34 Theowner of thepit shall make itgood, andgivemoney unto theowner of them; and the dead beast shall be his.
35 And if oneman'soxhurtanother's, that hedie; then they shallsell theliveox, anddivide themoney of it; and thedead ox also they shall divide.
36 Or if it beknown that theox hath used topush in timepast, and hisowner hath notkept him in; he shallsurelypayox forox; and the dead shall be his own.
