Chapter 5
KJV · Textus Receptus
AndafterwardMoses andAaron wentin, andtoldPharaoh, Thussaith theLORDGod ofIsrael, Let mypeoplego, that they may hold afeast unto me in the wilderness.
AndPharaohsaid, Who is theLORD, that I shouldobey hisvoice to letIsraelgo? Iknow not theLORD, neither will I letIsrael go.
And theysaid, TheGod of theHebrews hathmet with us: let usgo, we pray thee, threedays'journey into thedesert, andsacrifice unto theLORD ourGod; lest hefall upon us withpestilence, or with the sword.
And theking ofEgyptsaid unto them, Wherefore do ye,Moses andAaron, let thepeople from theirworks?get you unto your burdens.
AndPharaohsaid, Behold, thepeople of theland now aremany, and ye make themrest from their burdens.
AndPharaohcommanded the sameday thetaskmasters of thepeople, and theirofficers, saying,
Ye shall nomoregive thepeoplestraw tomakebrick, asheretofore: let themgo andgather straw for themselves.
And thetale of thebricks, which they didmakeheretofore, ye shalllay upon them; ye shall notdiminish ought thereof: for they beidle; therefore theycry, saying, Let usgo andsacrifice to our God.
Let there morework belaid upon themen, that they maylabour therein; and let them notregardvain words.
And thetaskmasters of thepeople wentout, and theirofficers, and theyspake to thepeople, saying, ThussaithPharaoh, I will notgive you straw.
Go ye,get youstrawwhere ye canfind it:yet notought of yourwork shall be diminished.
So thepeople were scatteredabroad throughout all theland ofEgypt togatherstubble instead of straw.
And thetaskmastershasted them, saying,Fulfil yourworks, yourdailytasks, as when therewas straw.
And theofficers of thechildren ofIsrael, whichPharaoh'staskmasters hadset over them, werebeaten, anddemanded, Wherefore have ye notfulfilled yourtask in makingbrick bothyesterday and today, asheretofore?
Then theofficers of thechildren ofIsraelcame andcried untoPharaoh, saying, Whereforedealest thou thus with thy servants?
There is nostrawgiven unto thyservants, and theysay to us,Makebrick: and, behold, thyservants arebeaten; but thefault is in thine own people.
But hesaid, Ye areidle, ye areidle: therefore yesay, Let usgo and dosacrifice to the LORD.
Go therefore now, andwork; for there shall nostraw begiven you, yet shall yedeliver thetale of bricks.
And theofficers of thechildren ofIsrael didsee that they were inevil case, after it wassaid, Ye shall notminish ought from yourbricks of yourdaily task.
And theymetMoses andAaron, whostood in theway, as they cameforth from Pharaoh:
And theysaid unto them, TheLORDlook upon you, andjudge; because ye have made oursavour to beabhorred in theeyes ofPharaoh, and in theeyes of hisservants, toput asword in theirhand to slay us.
AndMosesreturned unto theLORD, andsaid,Lord, wherefore hast thou so evilentreated thispeople? why is it that thou hast sent me?
For since Icame toPharaoh tospeak in thyname, he hath doneevil to thispeople; neither hast thoudelivered thypeople at all.
