Chapter 33
KJV · Textus Receptus
Again theword of theLORD came unto me, saying,
Son ofman,speak to thechildren of thypeople, andsay unto them, When Ibring thesword upon aland, if thepeople of thelandtakeaman of theircoasts, andset him for their watchman:
If when heseeth theswordcome upon theland, heblow thetrumpet, andwarn the people;
Thenwhosoeverheareth thesound of thetrumpet, and taketh notwarning; if theswordcome, and take himaway, hisblood shall be upon his own head.
Heheard thesound of thetrumpet, and took notwarning; hisblood shall be upon him. But he that takethwarning shalldeliver his soul.
But if thewatchmansee theswordcome, andblow not thetrumpet, and thepeople be notwarned; if theswordcome, andtake anyperson from among them, he is takenaway in hisiniquity; but hisblood will Irequire at thewatchman's hand.
So thou, Oson ofman, I haveset thee awatchman unto thehouse ofIsrael; therefore thou shalthear theword at mymouth, and warn them from me.
When Isay unto thewicked, Owicked man, thou shaltsurelydie; if thou dost notspeak towarn thewicked from hisway, thatwicked man shalldie in hisiniquity; but hisblood will Irequire at thine hand.
Nevertheless, if thouwarn thewicked of hisway toturn from it; if he do notturn from hisway, he shalldie in hisiniquity; but thou hastdelivered thy soul.
Therefore, O thouson ofman,speak unto thehouse ofIsrael; Thus yespeak,saying, If ourtransgressions and oursins be upon us, and we pineaway in them, how should we then live?
Say unto them, As Ilive,saith theLordGOD, I have nopleasure in thedeath of thewicked; but that thewickedturn from hisway andlive:turn ye,turn ye from yourevilways; for why will yedie, Ohouse of Israel?
Therefore, thouson ofman,say unto thechildren of thypeople, Therighteousness of therighteous shall notdeliver him in theday of histransgression: as for thewickedness of thewicked, he shall notfall thereby in theday that heturneth from hiswickedness; neither shall therighteous beable tolive for his righteousness in theday that he sinneth.
When I shallsay to therighteous, that he shallsurelylive; if hetrust to his ownrighteousness, andcommitiniquity, all hisrighteousnesses shall not beremembered; but for hisiniquity that he hathcommitted, he shall die for it.
Again, when Isay unto thewicked, Thou shaltsurelydie; if heturn from hissin, anddo that which islawful and right;
If thewickedrestore thepledge, giveagain that he hadrobbed,walk in thestatutes oflife, withoutcommittinginiquity; he shallsurelylive, he shall not die.
None of hissins that he hathcommitted shall bementioned unto him: he hathdone that which islawful andright; he shallsurely live.
Yet thechildren of thypeoplesay, Theway of theLord is notequal: but as for them, theirway is not equal.
When therighteousturneth from hisrighteousness, andcommittethiniquity, he shall even die thereby.
But if thewickedturn from hiswickedness, anddo that which islawful andright, he shall live thereby.
Yet yesay, Theway of theLord is notequal. O yehouse ofIsrael, I willjudge you everyone after his ways.
And it came to pass in thetwelfthyear of ourcaptivity, in thetenth month, in thefifth day of themonth, that one that hadescaped out ofJerusalemcame unto me,saying, Thecity is smitten.
Now thehand of theLORD was upon me in theevening,afore he that wasescapedcame; and hadopened mymouth, until hecame to me in themorning; and mymouth wasopened, and I was no more dumb.
Then theword of theLORD came unto me, saying,
Son ofman, they thatinhabit thosewastes of theland ofIsraelspeak,saying,Abraham wasone, and heinherited theland: but we aremany; theland isgiven us for inheritance.
Whereforesay unto them, Thussaith theLordGOD; Yeeat with theblood, and liftup youreyes toward youridols, andshedblood: and shall yepossess the land?
Yestand upon yoursword, yeworkabomination, and yedefile everyone hisneighbour'swife: and shall yepossess the land?
Say thou thus unto them, Thussaith theLordGOD; As Ilive, surely they that are in thewastes shallfall by thesword, and him that is in theopenfield will Igive to thebeasts to bedevoured, and they that be in theforts and in thecaves shalldie of the pestilence.
For I willlay thelandmostdesolate, and thepomp of herstrength shallcease; and themountains ofIsrael shall bedesolate, that none shall pass through.
Then shall theyknow that I am theLORD, when I havelaid thelandmostdesolate because of all theirabominations which they have committed.
Also, thouson ofman, thechildren of thypeople still aretalkingagainst thee by thewalls and in thedoors of thehouses, andspeakone toanother, everyone to hisbrother,saying,Come, I pray you, andhear what is theword that comethforth from the LORD.
And theycome unto thee as thepeoplecometh, and theysitbefore thee as mypeople, and theyhear thywords, but they will notdo them: for with theirmouth theyshew much love, but their heart goeth after their covetousness.
And, lo, thou art unto them as a very lovely song of one that hath a pleasant voice, and can play well on an instrument: for they hear thy words, but they do them not.
And when this cometh to pass, (lo, it will come,) then shall they know that a prophet hath been among them.
