Chapter 40
KJV · Textus Receptus
In thefive andtwentiethyear of ourcaptivity, in thebeginning of theyear, in thetenth day of themonth, in thefourteenthyearafter that thecity wassmitten, in theselfsameday thehand of theLORD was upon me, and brought me thither.
In thevisions ofGodbrought he me into theland ofIsrael, andset me upon averyhighmountain, by which was as theframe of acity on the south.
And hebrought me thither, and, behold, there was aman, whoseappearance was like theappearance ofbrass, with aline offlax in hishand, and ameasuringreed; and hestood in the gate.
And themansaid unto me,Son ofman, behold with thineeyes, andhear with thineears, andset thineheart upon all that I shallshew thee; for to theintent that I mightshew them unto thee art thoubrought hither:declare all that thouseest to thehouse of Israel.
And behold awall on theoutside of thehouse roundabout, and in theman'shand ameasuringreed ofsixcubits long by thecubit and an handbreadth: so hemeasured thebreadth of thebuilding, onereed; and theheight, one reed.
Thencame he unto thegate whichlookethtoward theeast, and wentup thestairs thereof, andmeasured thethreshold of thegate, which wasonereedbroad; and theotherthreshold of the gate, which wasonereed broad.
And every littlechamber wasonereedlong, andonereedbroad; and between the littlechambers werefivecubits; and thethreshold of thegateby theporch of thegatewithin wasone reed.
Hemeasured also theporch of thegatewithin, one reed.
Thenmeasured he theporch of thegate, eightcubits; and theposts thereof, twocubits; and theporch of thegate was inward.
And the littlechambers of thegateeastward werethree on thisside, andthree on thatside; theythree were ofonemeasure: and theposts hadone measure on this side and on that side.
And hemeasured thebreadth of theentry of thegate, tencubits; and thelength of thegate, thirteen cubits.
Thespace alsobefore the littlechambers wasonecubit on this side, and thespace was onecubit on that side: and the littlechambers weresixcubits on this side, andsix cubits on that side.
Hemeasured then thegate from theroof of one littlechamber to theroof of another: thebreadth wasfive andtwentycubits, door against door.
Hemade alsoposts ofthreescorecubits, even unto thepost of thecourt roundabout the gate.
And from theface of thegate of theentrance unto theface of theporch of theinnergate werefifty cubits.
And there werenarrowwindows to the littlechambers, and to theirpostswithin thegate roundabout, and likewise to thearches: andwindows were roundaboutinward: and upon eachpost were palm trees.
Thenbrought he me into theoutwardcourt, and, lo, there werechambers, and apavementmade for thecourt roundabout:thirtychambers were upon the pavement.
And thepavement by theside of thegates overagainst thelength of thegates was thelower pavement.
Then hemeasured thebreadth from theforefront of thelowergate unto theforefront of theinnercourtwithout, anhundredcubitseastward and northward.
And thegate of theoutwardcourt thatlookedtoward thenorth, hemeasured thelength thereof, and the breadth thereof.
And the littlechambers thereof werethree on this side andthree on that side; and theposts thereof and thearches thereof were after themeasure of thefirstgate: thelength thereof wasfiftycubits, and thebreadthfive andtwenty cubits.
And theirwindows, and theirarches, and their palmtrees, were after themeasure of thegate thatlookethtoward theeast; and they wentup unto it bysevensteps; and thearches thereof were before them.
And thegate of theinnercourt was over against thegate toward thenorth, and toward theeast; and hemeasured fromgate togate anhundred cubits.
After that hebrought metoward thesouth, and behold agatetoward thesouth: and hemeasured theposts thereof and thearches thereof according to these measures.
And there werewindows in it and in thearches thereof roundabout, like thosewindows: thelength wasfiftycubits, and thebreadthfive andtwenty cubits.
And there weresevensteps to goup to it, and thearches thereof werebefore them: and it had palmtrees, one on this side, andanother on that side, upon the posts thereof.
And there was agate in theinnercourttoward thesouth: and hemeasured fromgate togatetoward thesouth anhundred cubits.
And hebrought me to theinnercourt by thesouthgate: and hemeasured thesouthgate according to these measures;
And the littlechambers thereof, and theposts thereof, and thearches thereof, according to thesemeasures: and there werewindows in it and in thearches thereof roundabout: it wasfiftycubitslong, andfive andtwentycubits broad.
And thearches roundabout werefive andtwentycubitslong, andfivecubits broad.
And thearches thereof were toward theuttercourt; and palmtrees were upon theposts thereof: and the goingup to it hadeight steps.
And hebrought me into theinnercourttoward theeast: and hemeasured thegate according to these measures.
And the littlechambers thereof, and theposts thereof, and thearches thereof, were according to thesemeasures: and there werewindows therein and in thearches thereof roundabout: it wasfiftycubitslong, andfive and twenty cubits broad.
And the arches thereof were toward the outward court; and palm trees were upon the posts thereof, on this side, and on that side: and the going up to it had eight steps.
And he brought me to the north gate, and measured it according to these measures;
The little chambers thereof, the posts thereof, and the arches thereof, and the windows to it round about: the length was fifty cubits, and the breadth five and twenty cubits.
And the posts thereof were toward the utter court; and palm trees were upon the posts thereof, on this side, and on that side: and the going up to it had eight steps.
And the chambers and the entries thereof were by the posts of the gates, where they washed the burnt offering.
And in the porch of the gate were two tables on this side, and two tables on that side, to slay thereon the burnt offering and the sin offering and the trespass offering.
And at the side without, as one goeth up to the entry of the north gate, were two tables; and on the other side, which was at the porch of the gate, were two tables.
Four tables were on this side, and four tables on that side, by the side of the gate; eight tables, whereupon they slew their sacrifices.
And the four tables were of hewn stone for the burnt offering, of a cubit and an half long, and a cubit and an half broad, and one cubit high: whereupon also they laid the instruments wherewith they slew the burnt offering and the sacrifice.
And within were hooks, an hand broad, fastened round about: and upon the tables was the flesh of the offering.
And without the inner gate were the chambers of the singers in the inner court, which was at the side of the north gate; and their prospect was toward the south: one at the side of the east gate having the prospect toward the north.
And he said unto me, This chamber, whose prospect is toward the south, is for the priests, the keepers of the charge of the house.
And the chamber whose prospect is toward the north is for the priests, the keepers of the charge of the altar: these are the sons of Zadok among the sons of Levi, which come near to the LORD to minister unto him.
So he measured the court, an hundred cubits long, and an hundred cubits broad, foursquare; and the altar that was before the house.
And he brought me to the porch of the house, and measured each post of the porch, five cubits on this side, and five cubits on that side: and the breadth of the gate was three cubits on this side, and three cubits on that side.
The length of the porch was twenty cubits, and the breadth eleven cubits; and he brought me by the steps whereby they went up to it: and there were pillars by the posts, one on this side, and another on that side.
