Ezra
Chapter 9
KJV · Textus Receptus
Now when these things weredone, theprincescame to me,saying, Thepeople ofIsrael, and thepriests, and theLevites, have notseparated themselves from thepeople of thelands, doing according to theirabominations, even of theCanaanites, theHittites, thePerizzites, theJebusites, theAmmonites, theMoabites, theEgyptians, and the Amorites.
2 For they havetaken of theirdaughters for themselves, and for theirsons: so that theholyseed havemingled themselves with thepeople of thoselands: yea, thehand of theprinces andrulers hath beenchief in this trespass.
3 And when Iheard thisthing, Irent mygarment and mymantle, and pluckedoff thehair of myhead and of mybeard, and satdown astonied.
4 Then wereassembled unto me every one thattrembled at thewords of theGod ofIsrael, because of thetransgression of those that had been carriedaway; and Isatastonied until theevening sacrifice.
5 And at theeveningsacrifice I aroseup from myheaviness; and havingrent mygarment and mymantle, Ifell upon myknees, and spreadout myhands unto theLORD my God,
6 Andsaid, O myGod, I amashamed andblush to liftup myface to thee, myGod: for ouriniquities areincreasedover ourhead, and ourtrespass is grownup unto the heavens.
7 Since thedays of ourfathers have we been in agreattrespass unto thisday; and for ouriniquities have we, ourkings, and ourpriests, beendelivered into thehand of thekings of thelands, to thesword, tocaptivity, and to aspoil, and toconfusion offace, as it is this day.
8 And now for alittlespacegrace hath been shewed from theLORD ourGod, toleave us a remnant toescape, and togive us anail in hisholyplace, that ourGod maylighten oureyes, andgive us alittlereviving in our bondage.
9 For we werebondmen; yet ourGod hath notforsaken us in ourbondage, but hathextendedmercy unto us in thesight of thekings ofPersia, togive us areviving, to setup thehouse of ourGod, and torepair thedesolations thereof, and togive us awall inJudah and in Jerusalem.
10 And now, O ourGod, what shall wesayafter this? for we haveforsaken thy commandments,
11 Which thou hastcommandedby thyservants theprophets,saying, Theland, unto which yego topossess it, is anuncleanland with thefilthiness of thepeople of thelands, with theirabominations, which havefilled it from oneend toanother with their uncleanness.
12 Now thereforegive not yourdaughters unto theirsons, neithertake theirdaughters unto yoursons, norseek theirpeace or theirwealthforever: that ye may bestrong, andeat thegood of theland, and leave it for aninheritance to yourchildren for ever.
13 Andafter all that iscome upon us for ourevildeeds, and for ourgreattrespass, seeing that thou ourGod hastpunished usless than ouriniquities deserve, and hastgiven us such deliverance as this;
14 Should weagainbreak thycommandments, and join inaffinity with thepeople of theseabominations? wouldest not thou beangry with us till thou hadstconsumed us, so that there should be noremnant nor escaping?
15 OLORDGod ofIsrael, thou artrighteous: for weremain yetescaped, as it is thisday: behold, we arebefore thee in ourtrespasses: for we cannotstand before thee because of this.
