After thesethings theword of theLORDcame untoAbram in avision,saying,Fear not,Abram: I am thyshield, and thyexceedinggreat reward.
2 AndAbramsaid,LordGOD, what wilt thougive me, seeing Igochildless, and thesteward of myhouse isthisEliezer of Damascus?
3 AndAbramsaid, Behold, to me thou hastgivennoseed: and, lo, oneborn in myhouse is mine heir.
4 And, behold, theword of theLORD came unto him,saying, This shall not be thineheir; but he that shall comeforth out of thine ownbowels shall be thine heir.
5 And he brought himforthabroad, andsaid,Look now towardheaven, andtell thestars, if thou beable tonumber them: and hesaid unto him,So shall thy seed be.
6 And hebelieved in theLORD; and hecounted it to him for righteousness.
7 And hesaid unto him, I am theLORD that brought theeout ofUr of theChaldees, togive thee thisland to inherit it.
8 And hesaid,LordGOD,whereby shall Iknow that I shall inherit it?
9 And hesaid unto him,Take me anheifer of three yearsold, and a shegoat of three yearsold, and aram of three yearsold, and aturtledove, and a young pigeon.
10 And hetook unto him all these, anddivided them in themidst, andlaideachpiece oneagainstanother: but thebirds divided he not.
11 And when thefowls camedown upon thecarcases,Abram drove them away.
12 And when thesun was goingdown, a deepsleepfell uponAbram; and, lo, anhorror ofgreatdarkness fell upon him.
13 And hesaid untoAbram,Know of asurety that thyseed shall be astranger in aland that is not theirs, and shallserve them; and they shallafflict themfourhundred years;
14 And also thatnation, whom they shallserve, will Ijudge: andafterward shall they comeout withgreat substance.
15 And thou shaltgo to thyfathers inpeace; thou shalt beburied in agood old age.
16 But in thefourthgeneration they shall comehitheragain: for theiniquity of theAmorites is notyet full.
17 And it came to pass, that, when thesun wentdown, and it wasdark, behold asmokingfurnace, and aburninglamp thatpassedbetween those pieces.
18 In thesameday theLORDmade acovenant withAbram,saying, Unto thyseed have Igiven thisland, from theriver ofEgypt unto thegreatriver, theriver Euphrates:
19 TheKenites, and theKenizzites, and the Kadmonites,
20 And theHittites, and thePerizzites, and the Rephaims,
21 And theAmorites, and theCanaanites, and theGirgashites, and the Jebusites.
