And there was afamine in theland,beside thefirstfamine that was in thedays ofAbraham. AndIsaacwent untoAbimelechking of thePhilistines unto Gerar.
2 And theLORDappeared unto him, andsaid, Go notdown intoEgypt;dwell in theland which I shall tell thee of:
3Sojourn in thisland, and I will be with thee, and willbless thee; for unto thee, and unto thyseed, I willgive allthesecountries, and I willperform theoath which Isware untoAbraham thy father;
4 And I willmake thyseed tomultiply as thestars ofheaven, and willgive unto thyseed allthesecountries; and in thyseed shall all thenations of theearth be blessed;
5Because thatAbrahamobeyed myvoice, andkept mycharge, mycommandments, mystatutes, and my laws.
6 AndIsaacdwelt in Gerar:
7 And themen of theplaceasked him of hiswife; and hesaid, She is mysister: for hefeared tosay, She is mywife; lest, said he, themen of theplace shouldkill me forRebekah; because she wasfair to look upon.
8 And it came to pass, when he had been there alongtime, thatAbimelechking of thePhilistines lookedoutat awindow, andsaw, and, behold,Isaac wassporting withRebekah his wife.
9 AndAbimelechcalledIsaac, andsaid, Behold, of asurety she is thywife: and howsaidst thou, She is mysister? AndIsaacsaid unto him, Because Isaid, Lest I die for her.
10 AndAbimelechsaid, What is this thou hastdone unto us?one of thepeople mightlightly havelien with thywife, and thou shouldest havebrought guiltiness upon us.
11 AndAbimelechcharged all hispeople,saying, He thattoucheth thisman or hiswife shallsurely be put to death.
12 ThenIsaacsowed in thatland, andreceived in the sameyear anhundredfold: and theLORD blessed him.
13 And theman waxedgreat, andwentforward, andgrew until hebecamevery great:
14 For he hadpossession offlocks, andpossession ofherds, and greatstore ofservants: and thePhilistines envied him.
15 For all thewells which hisfather'sservants haddigged in thedays ofAbraham hisfather, thePhilistines hadstopped them, andfilled them with earth.
16 AndAbimelechsaid untoIsaac,Go from us; for thou artmuch mightier than we.
17 AndIsaacdeparted thence, and pitched histent in thevalley ofGerar, anddwelt there.
18 AndIsaacdiggedagain thewells ofwater, which they haddigged in thedays ofAbraham hisfather; for thePhilistines hadstopped themafter thedeath ofAbraham: and hecalled theirnames after thenames bywhich hisfather had called them.
19 AndIsaac'sservantsdigged in thevalley, andfound there awell ofspringing water.
20 And theherdmen ofGerar didstrive withIsaac'sherdmen,saying, Thewater is ours: and hecalled thename of thewellEsek; because they strove with him.
21 And theydiggedanotherwell, andstrove for that also: and hecalled the name ofit Sitnah.
22 And heremoved from thence, anddiggedanotherwell; and for that theystrove not: and hecalled the name ofitRehoboth; and hesaid, Fornow theLORD hath maderoom for us, and we shall befruitful in the land.
23 And he wentup from thence to Beersheba.
24 And theLORDappeared unto him the samenight, andsaid, I am theGod ofAbraham thyfather:fear not, for I amwith thee, and willbless thee, andmultiply thyseed for myservant Abraham's sake.
25 And hebuilded analtar there, andcalled upon thename of theLORD, andpitched histent there: and thereIsaac'sservantsdigged a well.
26 ThenAbimelechwent to him fromGerar, andAhuzzath one of hisfriends, andPhichol the chiefcaptain of his army.
27 AndIsaacsaid unto them,Whereforecome ye to me, seeing yehate me, and have sent me away from you?
28 And theysaid, Wesawcertainly that theLORD was with thee: and wesaid, Let there be now anoathbetwixt us, evenbetwixt us and thee, and let usmake a covenant with thee;
29 That thou wiltdo us nohurt, as we have nottouched thee, and as we havedone unto thee nothingbutgood, and have sent theeaway inpeace: thou artnow theblessed of the LORD.
30 And hemade them afeast, and they dideat and drink.
31 And they rose upbetimes in themorning, andswareone toanother: andIsaac sent themaway, and theydeparted from him in peace.
32 And it came to pass the sameday, thatIsaac'sservantscame, andtold himconcerning thewell which they haddigged, andsaid unto him, We havefound water.
33 And hecalled itShebah: therefore thename of thecity isBeersheba unto this day.
34 AndEsau wasfortyyearsold when hetook towifeJudith thedaughter ofBeeri theHittite, andBashemath thedaughter ofElon the Hittite:
35 Which were agrief ofmind untoIsaac and to Rebekah.
