And heheard thewords ofLaban'ssons,saying,Jacob hath takenaway all that was ourfather's; and of that which was ourfather's hath hegotten all this glory.
2 AndJacobbeheld thecountenance ofLaban, and, behold, it was not toward himas before.
3 And theLORDsaid untoJacob,Return unto theland of thyfathers, and to thy kindred; and I will be with thee.
4 AndJacobsent andcalledRachel andLeah to thefield unto his flock,
5 Andsaid unto them, Isee yourfather'scountenance, that it is not toward measbefore; but theGod of myfather hath been with me.
6 Andyeknow that with all mypower I haveserved your father.
7 And yourfather hathdeceived me, andchanged mywagestentimes; butGod sufferedhim not tohurt me.
8 If hesaid thus, Thespeckled shall be thywages; then all thecattlebarespeckled: and if hesaid thus, Theringstraked shall be thyhire; thenbare all thecattle ringstraked.
9 ThusGod hath takenaway thecattle of yourfather, and given them to me.
10 And it came to pass at thetime that thecattleconceived, that I liftedup mineeyes, andsaw in adream, and, behold, therams whichleaped upon thecattle wereringstraked,speckled, and grisled.
11 And theangel ofGodspake unto me in adream, saying,Jacob: And I said, Here am I.
12 And hesaid, Liftup now thineeyes, andsee, all therams whichleap upon thecattle areringstraked,speckled, andgrisled: for I haveseen all thatLaban doeth unto thee.
13 I am theGod ofBethel, where thouanointedst thepillar, and where thouvowedst avow unto me: nowarise, get theeout from thisland, andreturn unto theland of thy kindred.
14 AndRachel andLeahanswered andsaid unto him, Is there yet anyportion orinheritance for us in ourfather's house?
15 Are we notcounted of himstrangers? for he hathsold us, and hathquitedevoured also our money.
16 For all theriches whichGod hathtaken from ourfather, that is ours, and ourchildren's: now then, whatsoeverGod hathsaid unto thee, do.
17 ThenJacob roseup, andset hissons and hiswives upon camels;
18 And he carriedaway all hiscattle, and all hisgoods which he hadgotten, thecattle of hisgetting, which he hadgotten inPadanaram, for togo toIsaac hisfather in theland of Canaan.
19 AndLabanwent toshear hissheep: andRachel hadstolen theimages that were her father's.
20 AndJacob stoleawayunawares toLaban theSyrian, inthat hetold himnot that he fled.
21 So hefled with all that he had; and he roseup, and passedover theriver, andset hisface toward themount Gilead.
22 And it wastoldLaban on thethirdday thatJacob was fled.
23 And hetook hisbrethren with him, andpursued afterhimsevendays'journey; and theyovertook him in themount Gilead.
24 AndGodcame toLaban theSyrian in adream bynight, andsaid unto him, Takeheed that thouspeak nottoJacob eithergoodor bad.
25 ThenLabanovertookJacob. NowJacob hadpitched histent in themount: andLaban with hisbrethrenpitched in themount of Gilead.
26 AndLabansaid toJacob, What hast thoudone, that thou hast stolenawayunawares to me, and carriedaway mydaughters, ascaptives taken with the sword?
27 Wherefore didst thou fleeawaysecretly, and stealaway from me; and didst nottell me, that I might have sent theeaway withmirth, and withsongs, withtabret, and with harp?
28 And hast notsuffered me tokiss mysons and mydaughters? thou hast now donefoolishly in so doing.
29 Itis in thepower of myhand todo youhurt: but theGod of yourfatherspake unto meyesternight,saying, Take thouheed that thou speaknot toJacob eithergood or bad.
30 And now, though thou wouldestneeds begone, because thousorelongedst after thyfather'shouse, yet wherefore hast thoustolen my gods?
31 AndJacobanswered andsaid toLaban, Because I wasafraid: for Isaid,Peradventure thou wouldest take byforce thy daughters from me.
32 Withwhomsoever thoufindest thygods, let him notlive:before ourbrethrendiscern thou what is thine with me, andtake it to thee. ForJacobknew not thatRachel had stolen them.
33 AndLabanwent intoJacob'stent, and intoLeah'stent, and into thetwomaidservants'tents; but hefound them not. Then went heout ofLeah'stent, andentered intoRachel's tent.
34 NowRachel hadtaken theimages, andput them in thecamel'sfurniture, andsat upon them. AndLabansearched all thetent, but found them not.
35 And shesaid to herfather, Let it notdisplease mylord that Icannot riseup beforethee; for thecustom ofwomen is upon me. And hesearched, butfound not the images.
36 AndJacob waswroth, andchode withLaban: andJacobanswered andsaid toLaban, What is mytrespass? what is mysin, that thou hast so hotlypursued after me?
37Whereas thou hastsearched all mystuff, what hast thoufound of all thyhouseholdstuff?set ithere before mybrethren and thybrethren, that they mayjudgebetwixt us both.
38 Thistwentyyears have I been with thee; thyewes and thy shegoats have not cast theiryoung, and therams of thyflock have I not eaten.
39 That which wastorn of beasts Ibrought not unto thee; I bare theloss of it; of myhand didst thourequire it, whetherstolen byday, orstolen by night.
40 Thus I was; in theday thedroughtconsumed me, and thefrost bynight; and mysleepdeparted from mine eyes.
41 Thus have I been twenty years in thy house; I served thee fourteen years for thy two daughters, and six years for thy cattle: and thou hast changed my wages ten times.
42Except the God of my father, the God of Abraham, and the fear of Isaac, had been with me, surely thou hadst sent me away now empty. God hath seen mine affliction and the labour of my hands, and rebuked thee yesternight.
43And Laban answered and said unto Jacob, These daughters are my daughters, and these children are my children, and these cattle are my cattle, and all that thou seest is mine: and what can I do this day unto these my daughters, or unto their children which they have born?
44Now therefore come thou, let us make a covenant, I and thou; and let it be for a witness between me and thee.
45And Jacob took a stone, and set it up for a pillar.
46And Jacob said unto his brethren, Gather stones; and they took stones, and made an heap: and they did eat there upon the heap.
47And Laban called it Jegarsahadutha: but Jacob called it Galeed.
48And Laban said, This heap is a witness between me and thee this day. Therefore was the name of it called Galeed;
49And Mizpah; for he said, The LORD watch between me and thee, when we are absent one from another.
50If thou shalt afflict my daughters, or if thou shalt take other wives beside my daughters, no man is with us; see, God is witness betwixt me and thee.
51And Laban said to Jacob, Behold this heap, and behold this pillar, which I have cast betwixt me and thee;
52This heap be witness, and this pillar be witness, that I will not pass over this heap to thee, and that thou shalt not pass over this heap and this pillar unto me, for harm.
53The God of Abraham, and the God of Nahor, the God of their father, judge betwixt us. And Jacob sware by the fear of his father Isaac.
54Then Jacob offered sacrifice upon the mount, and called his brethren to eat bread: and they did eat bread, and tarried all night in the mount.
55And early in the morning Laban rose up, and kissed his sons and his daughters, and blessed them: and Laban departed, and returned unto his place.
