AndDinah thedaughter ofLeah, which shebare untoJacob, wentout tosee thedaughters of the land.
2 And whenShechem theson ofHamor theHivite,prince of thecountry,saw her, hetook her, andlay with her, and defiled her.
3 And hissoulclave untoDinah thedaughter ofJacob, and heloved thedamsel, andspakekindly unto the damsel.
4 AndShechemspake unto hisfatherHamor,saying,Get me thisdamsel to wife.
5 AndJacobheard that he haddefiledDinah hisdaughter: now hissons were with hiscattle in thefield: andJacob held hispeace until they were come.
6 AndHamor thefather ofShechem wentout untoJacob tocommune with him.
7 And thesons ofJacobcame out of thefield when theyheard it: and themen weregrieved, and they wereverywroth, because he hadwroughtfolly inIsrael inlying withJacob'sdaughter; which thing ought not to be done.
8 AndHamorcommuned with them,saying, Thesoul of mysonShechemlongeth for yourdaughter: I pray yougive her him to wife.
9 And make yemarriages with us, andgive yourdaughters unto us, andtake our daughters unto you.
10 And ye shalldwell with us: and theland shallbe beforeyou;dwell andtrade ye therein, and get you possessions therein.
11 AndShechemsaid unto herfather and unto herbrethren, Let mefindgrace in youreyes, and what ye shallsay unto me I will give.
12Ask me never somuchdowry andgift, and I willgive according as ye shallsay unto me: butgive me thedamsel to wife.
13 And thesons ofJacobansweredShechem andHamor hisfatherdeceitfully, andsaid, because he haddefiledDinah their sister:
14 And theysaid unto them, Wecannotdo thisthing, togive oursister toone that isuncircumcised; for that were a reproach unto us:
15 But inthis will weconsent unto you: If ye will be as we be, that everymale of you be circumcised;
16 Then will wegive ourdaughters unto you, and we willtake yourdaughters to us, and we willdwell with you, and we will becomeone people.
17 But if ye will nothearken unto us, to becircumcised; then will wetake ourdaughter, and we will be gone.
18 And theirwordspleasedHamor, andShechemHamor's son.
19 And the youngmandeferred not todo thething, because he haddelight inJacob'sdaughter: and he was morehonourable than all thehouse of his father.
20 AndHamor andShechem hissoncame unto thegate of theircity, andcommuned with themen of theircity, saying,
21 Thesemen arepeaceablewith us; therefore let themdwell in theland, andtrade therein; for theland, behold, it islargeenough forthem; let ustake theirdaughters to us forwives, and let usgive them our daughters.
22 Onlyherein will themenconsent unto us for todwell with us, to beonepeople, if everymale among us becircumcised, as they are circumcised.
23 Shall not theircattle and theirsubstance and everybeast of theirs be ours? only let usconsent unto them, and they will dwell with us.
24 And untoHamor and untoShechem hissonhearkened all that wentout of thegate of hiscity; and everymale wascircumcised, all that wentout of thegate of his city.
25 And it came to pass on thethirdday, when they weresore, thattwo of thesons ofJacob,Simeon andLevi,Dinah'sbrethren,took eachman hissword, andcame upon thecityboldly, andslew all the males.
26 And theyslewHamor andShechem hisson with theedge of thesword, andtookDinahout ofShechem'shouse, and went out.
27 Thesons ofJacobcame upon theslain, andspoiled thecity, because they haddefiled their sister.
28 Theytook theirsheep, and theiroxen, and theirasses, and that which was in thecity, and that which was in the field,
29 And all theirwealth, and all their littleones, and theirwives took theycaptive, andspoiled even all that was in the house.
30 AndJacobsaid toSimeon andLevi, Ye havetroubled me to make me tostink among theinhabitants of theland, among theCanaanites and thePerizzites: and I beingfew innumber, they shall gather themselvestogether against me, and slayme; and I shall bedestroyed, I and my house.
31 And theysaid, Should hedeal with oursister as with an harlot?
