Genesis
Chapter 44
KJV · Textus Receptus
And hecommanded the steward of hishouse, saying,Fill themen'ssacks withfood, as muchas theycancarry, andput everyman'smoney in hissack's mouth.
Andput mycup, thesilvercup, in thesack'smouth of theyoungest, and hiscornmoney. And hedid according to theword thatJoseph had spoken.
As soon as themorning waslight, themen were sentaway, they and their asses.
And when they were goneout of thecity, and not yet faroff,Josephsaid unto hissteward,Up,followafter themen; and when thou dostovertake them, say unto them, Wherefore have yerewardedevil for good?
Is not this it in which mylorddrinketh, and wherebyindeed hedivineth? ye have doneevil in so doing.
And heovertook them, and hespake unto them thesesame words.
And theysaid unto him, Whereforesaith mylord thesewords? Godforbid that thyservants shoulddo according to this thing:
Behold, themoney, which wefound in oursacks'mouths, we broughtagain unto thee out of theland ofCanaan: how then should westeal out of thylord'shousesilver or gold?
With whomsoever of thyservants it befound, both let himdie, and we also will be mylord's bondmen.
And hesaid, Now also let it be according unto yourwords: he with whom it isfound shall be myservant; and ye shall be blameless.
Then theyspeedily tookdown everyman hissack to theground, andopened everyman his sack.
And hesearched, andbegan at theeldest, andleft at theyoungest: and thecup wasfound inBenjamin's sack.
Then theyrent theirclothes, andladed everyman hisass, andreturned to the city.
AndJudah and hisbrethrencame toJoseph'shouse; for he was yet there: and theyfell beforehim on the ground.
AndJosephsaid unto them, Whatdeed is this that ye havedone? wotye not that such aman as I cancertainly divine?
AndJudahsaid, What shall wesay unto mylord? what shall wespeak? or how shall we clearourselves?God hath foundout theiniquity of thyservants: behold, we are mylord'sservants, both we, and healso withwhom thecup is found.
And hesaid, Godforbid that I shoulddoso: but theman in whosehand thecup isfound, he shall be myservant; and as for you, get youup inpeace unto your father.
ThenJudah camenear unto him, andsaid,Oh mylord, let thyservant, I pray thee, speak aword in mylord'sears, and let not thineangerburn against thyservant: for thou art even as Pharaoh.
Mylordasked hisservants, saying,Have ye afather, or a brother?
And wesaid unto mylord, Wehave afather, an oldman, and achild of his oldage, a littleone; and hisbrother isdead, and he alone isleft of hismother, and hisfather loveth him.
And thousaidst unto thyservants, Bring himdown unto me, that I mayset mine eyes upon him.
And wesaid unto mylord, Theladcannotleave hisfather: for if he shouldleave hisfather, his father would die.
And thousaidst unto thyservants,Except youryoungestbrother comedown with you, ye shallsee myface nomore.
And it came to pass when we cameup unto thyservant myfather, wetold him thewords of my lord.
And ourfathersaid, Goagain, andbuy us alittle food.
And wesaid, Wecannot godown: if ouryoungestbrotherbe with us, then will we godown: for wemay notsee theman'sface, except ouryoungest brother be with us.
And thyservant myfathersaid unto us, Yeknow that mywifebare me two sons:
And theone wentout from me, and Isaid,Surely he is torn inpieces; and I sawhim not since:
And if yetake this alsofromme, andmischief befallhim, ye shall bringdown my grayhairs withsorrow to the grave.
Now therefore when Icome to thyservant myfather, and thelad be not with us; seeing that hislife is boundup in the lad's life;
It shall come to pass, when heseeth that thelad is not with us, that he willdie: and thyservants shall bringdown the grayhairs of thyservant ourfather withsorrow to the grave.
For thyservant becamesurety for theladunto myfather, saying, If Ibring him not unto thee, then I shall bear theblame to myfather for ever.
Now therefore, I pray thee, let thyservantabide instead of thelad abondman to mylord; and let thelad goup with his brethren.
Forhow shall I goup to myfather, and thelad be not with me? lest peradventure Isee theevil that shall comeon my father.
