Habakkuk
Chapter 1
KJV · Textus Receptus
Theburden whichHabakkuk theprophet did see.
OLORD, how long shall Icry, and thou wilt nothear! even cryout unto thee ofviolence, and thou wilt not save!
Why dost thoushew meiniquity, and cause me tobeholdgrievance? forspoiling andviolence are before me: and there are that raiseupstrife and contention.
Therefore thelaw isslacked, andjudgment dothnever goforth: for thewicked dothcompass about therighteous; thereforewrongjudgment proceedeth.
Behold ye among theheathen, andregard, andwondermarvellously: for I willwork awork in yourdays, which ye will notbelieve, though it be told you.
For, lo, I raiseup theChaldeans, thatbitter andhastynation, which shallmarch through thebreadth of theland, topossess the dwellingplaces that are not theirs.
They areterrible anddreadful: theirjudgment and theirdignity shall proceed of themselves.
Theirhorses also areswifter than theleopards, and are morefierce than theeveningwolves: and theirhorsemen shallspread themselves, and theirhorsemen shallcome fromfar; they shallfly as theeagle thathasteth to eat.
They shallcome all forviolence: theirfaces shall supup as the eastwind, and they shallgather thecaptivity as the sand.
And they shallscoff at thekings, and theprinces shall be ascorn unto them: they shallderide every stronghold; for they shallheapdust, and take it.
Then shall hismindchange, and he shall passover, andoffend, imputingthis hispower unto his god.
Art thou not fromeverlasting, OLORD myGod, mine HolyOne? we shall notdie. OLORD, thou hastordained them forjudgment; and, O mightyGod, thou hastestablished them for correction.
Thou art ofpurereyes than tobeholdevil, andcanst notlook oniniquity: whereforelookest thou upon them that dealtreacherously, and holdest thytongue when thewickeddevoureth the man that is more righteous than he?
Andmakestmen as thefishes of thesea, as the creepingthings, that have no ruler over them?
They takeup all of them with theangle, theycatch them in theirnet, andgather them in theirdrag: therefore theyrejoice and are glad.
Therefore theysacrifice unto theirnet, and burnincense unto theirdrag; because bythem theirportion isfat, and theirmeat plenteous.
Shall they thereforeempty theirnet, and notsparecontinually toslay the nations?
