Isaiah
Chapter 10
KJV · Textus Receptus
Woe unto them thatdecreeunrighteousdecrees, and thatwritegrievousness which they have prescribed;
To turnaside theneedy fromjudgment, and to takeaway theright from thepoor of mypeople, thatwidows may be theirprey, and that they mayrob the fatherless!
And what will yedo in theday ofvisitation, and in thedesolation which shallcome fromfar? to whom will yeflee forhelp? and where will yeleave your glory?
Without me theyshall bowdown under theprisoners, and they shallfall under theslain. For all this hisanger is not turnedaway, but hishand is stretched out still.
OAssyrian, therod of mineanger, and thestaff in theirhand is mine indignation.
I willsend him against anhypocriticalnation, and against thepeople of mywrath will I give him acharge, totake thespoil, and totake theprey, and to tread themdown like themire of the streets.
Howbeit hemeaneth not so, neither doth hisheartthink so; but it is in hisheart todestroy and cutoffnations not a few.
For hesaith, Are not myprincesaltogether kings?
Is notCalno asCarchemish? is notHamath asArpad? is notSamaria as Damascus?
As myhand hathfound thekingdoms of theidols, and whose gravenimages did excel them ofJerusalem and of Samaria;
Shall I not, as I havedone untoSamaria and heridols, sodo toJerusalem and her idols?
Wherefore it shall come to pass, that when theLord hathperformed his wholework uponmountZion and onJerusalem, I willpunish thefruit of thestoutheart of theking ofAssyria, and theglory of hishigh looks.
For hesaith, By thestrength of myhand I havedone it, and by mywisdom; for I amprudent: and I haveremoved thebounds of thepeople, and haverobbed theirtreasures, and I have putdown theinhabitants like avaliant man:
And myhand hathfound as anest theriches of thepeople: and as onegatheretheggs that areleft, have Igathered all theearth; and there was none thatmoved thewing, oropened themouth, or peeped.
Shall theaxeboast itself against him thatheweth therewith? or shall thesawmagnify itself against him thatshaketh it? as if therod shouldshake itself against them that lift itup, or as if thestaff should liftup itself, as if it were no wood.
Therefore shall theLord, theLord ofhosts,send among his fatonesleanness; and under hisglory he shallkindle aburning like the burning of a fire.
And thelight ofIsrael shall be for afire, and his HolyOne for aflame: and it shallburn anddevour histhorns and hisbriers inone day;
And shallconsume theglory of hisforest, and of his fruitfulfield, bothsoul andbody: and they shall be as when astandardbearer fainteth.
And therest of thetrees of hisforest shall befew, that achild may write them.
And it shall come to pass in thatday, that theremnant ofIsrael, and such as areescaped of thehouse ofJacob, shall no moreagainstay upon him thatsmote them; but shallstay upon theLORD, the HolyOne ofIsrael, in truth.
Theremnant shallreturn, even theremnant ofJacob, unto themighty God.
For though thypeopleIsrael be as thesand of thesea, yet aremnant of them shallreturn: theconsumptiondecreed shalloverflow with righteousness.
For theLordGOD ofhosts shallmake aconsumption, evendetermined, in themidst of all the land.
Therefore thussaith theLordGOD ofhosts, O mypeople thatdwellest inZion, be notafraid of theAssyrian: he shallsmite thee with arod, and shall liftup hisstaff against thee, after themanner of Egypt.
For yet avery littlewhile, and theindignation shallcease, and mineanger in their destruction.
And theLORD ofhosts shall stirup ascourge for him according to theslaughter ofMidian at therock ofOreb: and as hisrod was upon thesea, so shall he lift itup after themanner of Egypt.
And it shall come to pass in thatday, that hisburden shall be takenaway from off thyshoulder, and hisyoke from off thyneck, and theyoke shall bedestroyedbecause of the anointing.
He iscome toAiath, he ispassed toMigron; atMichmash he hath laidup his carriages:
They are goneover thepassage: they have taken up theirlodging atGeba;Ramah isafraid;Gibeah ofSaul is fled.
Liftup thyvoice, OdaughterofGallim: cause it to beheard untoLaish, Opoor Anathoth.
Madmenah isremoved; theinhabitants ofGebim gather themselves to flee.
As yet shall heremain atNob thatday: he shallshake hishand against themount of thedaughter ofZion, thehill of Jerusalem.
Behold, theLord, theLORD ofhosts, shalllop thebough withterror: and the highones ofstature shall be hewndown, and thehaughty shall be humbled.
And he shall cutdown thethickets of theforest withiron, andLebanon shallfall by a mighty one.
