Isaiah
Chapter 14
KJV · Textus Receptus
For theLORD will havemercy onJacob, and will yetchooseIsrael, andset them in their ownland: and thestrangers shall bejoined with them, and they shallcleave to thehouse of Jacob.
And thepeople shalltake them, andbring them to theirplace: and thehouse ofIsrael shallpossess them in theland of theLORD forservants andhandmaids: and they shall take themcaptives, whosecaptives they were; and they shallrule over their oppressors.
And it shall come to pass in theday that theLORD shall give theerest from thysorrow, and from thyfear, and from thehardbondage wherein thou wast made to serve,
That thou shalt takeup thisproverb against theking ofBabylon, andsay, How hath theoppressorceased! the goldencity ceased!
TheLORD hathbroken thestaff of thewicked, and thesceptre of the rulers.
He whosmote thepeople inwrath with acontinualstroke, he thatruled thenations inanger, ispersecuted, andnone hindereth.
The wholeearth is atrest, and isquiet: they breakforth into singing.
Yea, the firtreesrejoice at thee, and thecedars ofLebanon, saying, Since thou art laiddown, nofeller is come up against us.
Hell from beneath ismoved for thee tomeet thee at thycoming: it stirrethup thedead for thee, even all the chiefones of theearth; it hath raisedup from theirthrones all thekings of the nations.
All they shallspeak andsay unto thee, Art thou also becomeweak as we? art thou become like unto us?
Thypomp is broughtdown to thegrave, and thenoise of thyviols: theworm isspread under thee, and theworms cover thee.
How art thoufallen fromheaven, OLucifer, son of themorning! how art thou cutdown to theground, which didstweaken the nations!
For thou hastsaid in thineheart, I willascend intoheaven, I willexalt mythroneabove thestars ofGod: I willsit also upon themount of thecongregation, in thesides of the north:
I willascend above theheights of theclouds; I will belike the most High.
Yet thou shalt be broughtdown tohell, to thesides of the pit.
They thatsee thee shall narrowlylook upon thee, andconsider thee, saying, Is this theman that made theearth totremble, that didshake kingdoms;
Thatmade theworld as awilderness, anddestroyed thecities thereof; thatopened not thehouse of his prisoners?
All thekings of thenations, even all of them, lie inglory, everyone in his own house.
But thou art castout of thygrave like anabominablebranch, and as theraiment of those that areslain, thrustthrough with asword, that godown to thestones of thepit; as acarcase trodden under feet.
Thou shalt not bejoined with them inburial, because thou hastdestroyed thyland, andslain thypeople: theseed ofevildoers shallnever be renowned.
Prepareslaughter for hischildren for theiniquity of theirfathers; that they donotrise, norpossess theland, norfill theface of theworld withcities.
For I will riseup against them, saith theLORD ofhosts, and cutoff fromBabylon thename, andremnant, andson, andnephew, saith the LORD.
I will alsomake it apossession for thebittern, andpools ofwater: and I willsweep it with thebesom ofdestruction, saith theLORD of hosts.
TheLORD ofhosts hathsworn, saying, Surely as I havethought, so shall it come to pass; and as I havepurposed, so shall it stand:
That I willbreak theAssyrian in myland, and upon mymountains tread him underfoot: then shall hisyokedepart from off them, and hisburdendepart from off their shoulders.
This is thepurpose that ispurposed upon the wholeearth: and this is thehand that is stretchedout upon all the nations.
For theLORD ofhosts hathpurposed, and who shalldisannul it? and hishand is stretchedout, and who shall turn it back?
In theyear thatkingAhazdied was this burden.
Rejoice not thou, wholePalestina, because therod of him thatsmote thee isbroken: for out of theserpent'sroot shall comeforth acockatrice, and hisfruit shall be afieryflying serpent.
And thefirstborn of thepoor shallfeed, and theneedy shall liedown insafety: and I willkill thyroot withfamine, and he shallslay thy remnant.
Howl, Ogate;cry, Ocity; thou, wholePalestina, artdissolved: for there shallcome from thenorth asmoke, and none shall bealone in his appointed times.
What shall one thenanswer themessengers of thenation? That theLORD hathfoundedZion, and thepoor of hispeople shall trust in it.
