Isaiah
Chapter 24
KJV · Textus Receptus
Behold, theLORD maketh theearthempty, and maketh itwaste, andturneth it upsidedown, and scatterethabroad the inhabitants thereof.
And it shall be, as with thepeople, so with thepriest; as with theservant, so with hismaster; as with themaid, so with hermistress; as with thebuyer, so with theseller; as with thelender, so with theborrower; as with the taker ofusury,so with the giver of usury to him.
Theland shall beutterlyemptied, andutterlyspoiled: for theLORD hathspoken this word.
Theearthmourneth and fadethaway, theworldlanguisheth and fadethaway, thehaughtypeople of theearth do languish.
Theearth also isdefiled under theinhabitants thereof; because they havetransgressed thelaws, changed theordinance, broken theeverlasting covenant.
Therefore hath thecursedevoured theearth, and they thatdwell therein aredesolate: therefore theinhabitants of theearth areburned, andfewmen left.
The newwinemourneth, thevinelanguisheth, all themerryhearted do sigh.
Themirth oftabretsceaseth, thenoise of them thatrejoiceendeth, thejoy of theharp ceaseth.
They shall notdrinkwine with asong; strongdrink shall bebitter to them that drink it.
Thecity ofconfusion is brokendown: everyhouse is shutup, that no man may come in.
There is acrying forwine in thestreets; alljoy isdarkened, themirth of theland is gone.
In thecity isleftdesolation, and thegate issmitten with destruction.
When thus it shall be in themidst of thelandamong thepeople, there shall be as theshaking of an olivetree, and as the gleaninggrapes when thevintage is done.
They shall liftup theirvoice, they shallsing for themajesty of theLORD, they shall cryaloud from the sea.
Whereforeglorify ye theLORD in thefires, even thename of theLORDGod ofIsrael in theisles of the sea.
From the uttermostpart of theearth have weheardsongs, evenglory to therighteous. But Isaid, Myleanness, myleanness, woe unto me! the treacherousdealers have dealttreacherously; yea, the treacherousdealers have dealtvery treacherously.
Fear, and thepit, and thesnare, are upon thee, Oinhabitant of the earth.
And it shall come to pass, that he whofleeth from thenoise of thefear shallfall into thepit; and he that comethup out of themidst of thepit shall betaken in thesnare: for thewindows from onhigh areopen, and thefoundations of theearth do shake.
Theearth shallreel to andfro like adrunkard, and shall beremoved like acottage; and thetransgression thereof shall beheavy upon it; and it shallfall, and notrise again.
And it shall come to pass in thatday, that theLORD shallpunish thehost of the highones that are onhigh, and thekings of theearth upon the earth.
And they shall be gatheredtogether, asprisoners aregathered in thepit, and shall be shutup in theprison, and aftermanydays shall they be visited.
Then themoon shall beconfounded, and thesunashamed, when theLORD ofhosts shallreign inmountZion, and inJerusalem, and before hisancients gloriously.
