Chapter 3

For, behold, theLord, theLORD ofhosts, doth takeaway fromJerusalem and fromJudah thestay and thestaff, the wholestay ofbread, and thewholestay of water,
2 The mightyman, and theman ofwar, thejudge, and theprophet, and theprudent, and the ancient,
3 Thecaptain offifty, and thehonourableman, and thecounsellor, and thecunningartificer, and theeloquent orator.
4 And I willgivechildren to be theirprinces, andbabes shall rule over them.
5 And thepeople shall beoppressed, everyone byanother, and everyone by hisneighbour: thechild shall behave himselfproudly against theancient, and thebase against the honourable.
6 When aman shall takehold of hisbrother of thehouse of hisfather, saying, Thou hastclothing, be thou ourruler, and let thisruin be under thy hand:
7 In thatday shall heswear,saying, I will not be anhealer; for in myhouse is neitherbread norclothing:make me not aruler of the people.
8 ForJerusalem isruined, andJudah isfallen: because theirtongue and theirdoings are against theLORD, toprovoke theeyes of his glory.
9 Theshew of theircountenance doth witness againstthem; and theydeclare theirsin asSodom, theyhide it not.Woe unto theirsoul! for they haverewarded evil unto themselves.
10Say ye to therighteous, that it shall bewell with him: for they shalleat thefruit of their doings.
11Woe unto thewicked! it shall beill with him: for thereward of hishands shall be given him.
12 As for mypeople,children are theiroppressors, andwomenrule over them. O mypeople, they whichlead thee cause thee toerr, anddestroy theway of thy paths.
13 TheLORD standethup toplead, andstandeth tojudge the people.
14 TheLORD willenter intojudgment with theancients of hispeople, and theprinces thereof: for ye have eatenup thevineyard; thespoil of thepoor is in your houses.
15 What mean ye that yebeat mypeople topieces, andgrind thefaces of thepoor?saith theLordGOD of hosts.
16 Moreover theLORDsaith,Because thedaughters ofZion arehaughty, andwalk with stretchedforthnecks andwantoneyes,walking andmincing as theygo, and making atinkling with their feet:
17 Therefore theLord will smite with ascab the crown of thehead of thedaughters ofZion, and theLORD willdiscover their secret parts.
18 In thatday theLord will takeaway thebravery of their tinklingornaments about their feet, and theircauls, and their round tires like the moon,
19 Thechains, and thebracelets, and the mufflers,
20 Thebonnets, and the ornaments of thelegs, and theheadbands, and thetablets, and the earrings,
21 Therings, andnose jewels,
22 The changeable suits ofapparel, and themantles, and thewimples, and the crisping pins,
23 Theglasses, and the finelinen, and thehoods, and the vails.
24 And it shall come to pass, that instead of sweetsmell there shall bestink; and instead of agirdle arent; and instead of wellsethairbaldness; and instead of astomacher agirding ofsackcloth; andburning instead of beauty.
25 Thymen shallfall by thesword, and thymighty in the war.
26 And hergates shalllament andmourn; and she beingdesolate shallsit upon the ground.
