Isaiah
Chapter 30
KJV · Textus Receptus
Woe to therebelliouschildren, saith theLORD, thattakecounsel, but not of me; and thatcover with acovering, but not of myspirit, that they mayaddsin to sin:
Thatwalk to godown intoEgypt, and have notasked at mymouth; tostrengthen themselves in thestrength ofPharaoh, and totrust in theshadow of Egypt!
Therefore shall thestrength ofPharaoh be yourshame, and thetrust in theshadow ofEgypt your confusion.
For hisprinces were atZoan, and hisambassadorscame to Hanes.
They were allashamed of apeople that could notprofit them, nor be anhelp norprofit, but ashame, and also a reproach.
Theburden of thebeasts of thesouth: into theland oftrouble andanguish, from whence come theyoung and oldlion, theviper andfieryflyingserpent, they willcarry theirriches upon theshoulders of youngasses, and theirtreasures upon thebunches ofcamels, to apeople that shall not profit them.
For theEgyptians shallhelp invain, and to nopurpose: therefore have Icried concerningthis,Theirstrength is to sit still.
Nowgo, write it before them in atable, andnote it in abook, that it may be for thetime tocomeforever and ever:
That this is arebelliouspeople, lyingchildren, children thatwill nothear thelaw of the LORD:
Whichsay to theseers,See not; and to theprophets,Prophesy not unto us rightthings, speak unto us smooththings, prophesy deceits:
Get youout of theway, turnaside out of thepath, cause the HolyOne ofIsrael tocease from before us.
Wherefore thussaith the HolyOne ofIsrael, Because yedespise thisword, andtrust inoppression andperverseness, and stay thereon:
Therefore thisiniquity shall be to you as abreach ready tofall, swellingout in ahighwall, whosebreakingcomethsuddenly at an instant.
And he shallbreak it as thebreaking of thepotters'vessel that is broken inpieces; he shall notspare: so that there shall not befound in thebursting of it asherd totakefire from thehearth, or totakewater withal out of the pit.
For thussaith theLordGOD, the HolyOne ofIsrael; Inreturning andrest shall ye besaved; inquietness and inconfidence shall be yourstrength: and ye would not.
But yesaid, No; for we willflee uponhorses; therefore shall yeflee: and, We willride upon theswift; therefore shall they thatpursue you be swift.
Onethousand shall fleeat therebuke ofone;at therebuke offive shall yeflee: till ye beleft as abeacon upon thetop of amountain, and as anensign on an hill.
And therefore will theLORDwait, that he may begracious unto you, and therefore will he beexalted, that he may havemercy upon you: for theLORD is aGod ofjudgment:blessed are all they that wait for him.
For thepeople shalldwell inZion atJerusalem: thou shaltweep nomore: he will beverygracious unto thee at thevoice of thycry; when he shallhear it, he will answer thee.
And though theLordgive you thebread ofadversity, and thewater ofaffliction, yet shall not thyteachers be removed into acorner any more, but thineeyes shallsee thy teachers:
And thineears shallhear awordbehind thee, saying, This is theway, walk ye init, when ye turn to the righthand, and when ye turn to the left.
Ye shalldefile also thecovering of thy gravenimages ofsilver, and theornament of thy moltenimages ofgold: thou shalt cast themaway as a menstruouscloth; thou shaltsay unto it, Get thee hence.
Then shall hegive therain of thyseed, that thou shaltsow theground withal; andbread of theincrease of theearth, and it shall befat andplenteous: in thatday shall thycattlefeed inlarge pastures.
Theoxen likewise and the youngasses thatear theground shalleatcleanprovender, which hath beenwinnowed with theshovel and with the fan.
And there shall be upon everyhighmountain, and upon everyhighhill, rivers andstreams ofwaters in theday of thegreatslaughter, when thetowers fall.
Moreover thelight of themoon shall be as thelight of thesun, and thelight of thesun shall besevenfold, as thelight ofsevendays, in theday that theLORD bindethup thebreach of hispeople, andhealeth thestroke of their wound.
Behold, thename of theLORDcometh fromfar, burning with hisanger, and theburden thereof isheavy: hislips arefull ofindignation, and histongue as adevouring fire:
And hisbreath, as anoverflowingstream, shall reach to themidst of theneck, tosift thenations with thesieve ofvanity: and there shall be abridle in thejaws of thepeople, causing them to err.
Ye shall have asong, as in thenight when aholysolemnity iskept; andgladness ofheart, as when onegoeth with apipe tocome into themountain of theLORD, to the mightyOne of Israel.
And theLORD shall cause hisgloriousvoice to beheard, and shallshew the lightingdown of hisarm, with theindignation of hisanger, and with theflame of adevouringfire, withscattering, andtempest, andhailstones.
For through thevoice of theLORD shall theAssyrian be beatendown, whichsmote with a rod.
And in everyplace where thegroundedstaff shallpass, which theLORD shalllay upon him, it shall be withtabrets and in battles of shaking will he fight with it.
For Tophet is ordained of old; yea, for the king it is prepared; he hath made it deep and large: the pile thereof is fire and much wood; the breath of the LORD, like a stream of brimstone, doth kindle it.
