Isaiah
Chapter 31
KJV · Textus Receptus
Woe to them that godown toEgypt forhelp; andstay onhorses, andtrust inchariots, because they aremany; and inhorsemen, because they areverystrong; but theylook not unto the HolyOne ofIsrael, neitherseek the LORD!
2 Yet he also iswise, and willbringevil, and will not callback hiswords: but willarise against thehouse of theevildoers, and against thehelp of them thatwork iniquity.
3 Now theEgyptians aremen, and notGod; and theirhorsesflesh, and notspirit. When theLORD shall stretchout hishand, both he thathelpeth shallfall, and he that isholpen shall falldown, and they all shallfail together.
4 For thus hath theLORDspoken unto me, Like as thelion and the younglionroaring on hisprey, when amultitude ofshepherds is calledforth against him, he will not beafraid of theirvoice, norabase himself for thenoise of them: so shall theLORD ofhosts comedown tofight formountZion, and for the hill thereof.
5 Asbirdsflying, so will theLORD ofhostsdefendJerusalem;defending also he willdeliver it; and passingover he will preserve it.
6Turn ye unto him from whom thechildren ofIsrael havedeeply revolted.
7 For in thatday everyman shall castaway hisidols ofsilver, and hisidols ofgold, which your ownhands havemade unto you for a sin.
8 Then shall theAssyrianfall with thesword, not of a mightyman; and thesword, not of a meanman, shalldevour him: but he shallfleefrom thesword, and his youngmen shall be discomfited.
9 And he shall passover to his stronghold forfear, and hisprinces shall beafraid of theensign, saith theLORD, whosefire is inZion, and hisfurnace in Jerusalem.
