Chapter 38
KJV · Textus Receptus
In thosedays wasHezekiahsick untodeath. AndIsaiah theprophet theson ofAmozcame unto him, andsaid unto him, Thussaith theLORD, Set thinehouse inorder: for thou shaltdie, and not live.
ThenHezekiahturned hisface toward thewall, andprayed unto the LORD,
Andsaid,Remember now, OLORD, Ibeseech thee, how I havewalkedbefore thee intruth and with aperfectheart, and havedone that which isgood in thysight. AndHezekiahwept sore.
Then came theword of theLORD toIsaiah, saying,
Go, andsay toHezekiah, Thussaith theLORD, theGod ofDavid thyfather, I haveheard thyprayer, I haveseen thytears: behold, I willadd unto thydaysfifteen years.
And I willdeliver thee and thiscity out of thehand of theking ofAssyria: and I willdefend this city.
And this shall be asign unto thee from theLORD, that theLORD willdo thisthing that he hath spoken;
Behold, I will bringagain theshadow of thedegrees, which is gonedown in thesundial ofAhaz, tendegreesbackward. So thesunreturnedtendegrees, by whichdegrees it was gone down.
Thewriting ofHezekiahking ofJudah, when he had beensick, and wasrecovered of his sickness:
Isaid in the cuttingoff of mydays, I shallgo to thegates of thegrave: I amdeprived of theresidue of my years.
Isaid, I shall notsee theLORD, even theLORD, in theland of theliving: I shallbeholdman no more with theinhabitants of the world.
Mineage isdeparted, and isremoved from me as ashepherd'stent: I have cutoff like aweaver mylife: he will cut meoff with piningsickness: fromday even tonight wilt thou make an end of me.
Ireckoned tillmorning, that, as alion, so will hebreak all mybones: fromday even tonight wilt thou make an end of me.
Like acrane or aswallow, so did Ichatter: I didmourn as adove: mineeyesfail with lookingupward: OLORD, I amoppressed; undertake for me.
What shall Isay? he hath bothspoken unto me, and himself hathdone it: I shall gosoftly all myyears in thebitterness of my soul.
OLord, by these things menlive, and in all these things is thelife of myspirit: so wilt thourecover me, and make me to live.
Behold, forpeace I had greatbitterness: but thou hast inlove to mysoul delivered it from thepit ofcorruption: for thou hastcast all mysinsbehind thy back.
For thegrave cannotpraise thee, death can notcelebrate thee: they that godown into thepit cannothope for thy truth.
Theliving, theliving, he shallpraise thee, as I do thisday: thefather to thechildren shall makeknown thy truth.
TheLORD was ready tosave me: therefore we will sing mysongs to the stringedinstruments all thedays of ourlife in thehouse of the LORD.
ForIsaiah hadsaid, Let themtake alump offigs, and lay it for aplaister upon theboil, and he shall recover.
Hezekiah also hadsaid, What is thesign that I shall goup to thehouse of the LORD?
