Isaiah
Chapter 5
KJV · Textus Receptus
Now will Ising to mywellbeloved asong of mybeloved touching hisvineyard. Mywellbeloved hath avineyard in a veryfruitful hill:
And hefenced it, and gathered out thestones thereof, andplanted it with the choicestvine, andbuilt atower in themidst of it, and alsomade awinepress therein: and helooked that it should bringforthgrapes, and it broughtforth wild grapes.
And now, Oinhabitants ofJerusalem, andmen ofJudah, judge, I pray you, betwixt me and my vineyard.
What could have beendone more to myvineyard, that I have notdone in it?wherefore, when Ilooked that it should bringforthgrapes, brought itforth wild grapes?
And now go to; I willtell you what I willdo to myvineyard: I will takeaway thehedge thereof, and it shall be eatenup; and breakdown thewall thereof, and it shall be trodden down:
And I willlay itwaste: it shall not bepruned, nordigged; but there shall comeupbriers andthorns: I will alsocommand theclouds that theyrain no rain upon it.
For thevineyard of theLORD ofhosts is thehouse ofIsrael, and themen ofJudah hispleasantplant: and helooked forjudgment, but beholdoppression; forrighteousness, but behold a cry.
Woe unto them thatjoinhouse tohouse, thatlayfield tofield, till there benoplace, that they may beplaced alone in themidst of the earth!
In mineears said theLORD ofhosts, Of atruthmanyhouses shall bedesolate, evengreat andfair, without inhabitant.
Yea,tenacres ofvineyard shallyieldonebath, and theseed of anhomer shallyield an ephah.
Woe unto them that rise upearly in themorning, that they mayfollow strongdrink; thatcontinue untilnight, tillwine inflame them!
And theharp, and theviol, thetabret, andpipe, andwine, are in theirfeasts: but theyregard not thework of theLORD, neitherconsider theoperation of his hands.
Therefore mypeople are gone intocaptivity, because they have noknowledge: and theirhonourablemen arefamished, and theirmultitude driedup with thirst.
Thereforehell hathenlargedherself, andopened hermouth withoutmeasure: and theirglory, and theirmultitude, and theirpomp, and he thatrejoiceth, shall descend into it.
And the meanman shall be broughtdown, and the mightyman shall behumbled, and theeyes of thelofty shall be humbled:
But theLORD ofhosts shall beexalted injudgment, andGod that isholy shall besanctified in righteousness.
Then shall thelambsfeed after theirmanner, and the wasteplaces of the fatones shallstrangers eat.
Woe unto them thatdrawiniquity withcords ofvanity, andsin as it were with acart rope:
Thatsay, Let him makespeed, andhasten hiswork, that we maysee it: and let thecounsel of the HolyOne ofIsrael drawnigh andcome, that we may know it!
Woe unto them thatcallevilgood, andgoodevil; thatputdarkness forlight, andlight fordarkness; thatputbitter forsweet, andsweet for bitter!
Woe unto them that arewise in their owneyes, andprudent in their own sight!
Woe unto them that aremighty todrinkwine, andmen ofstrength tomingle strong drink:
Whichjustify thewickedforreward, and takeaway therighteousness of the righteous from him!
Therefore as thefiredevoureth thestubble, and theflameconsumeth thechaff, so theirroot shall be asrottenness, and theirblossom shall goup asdust: because they have castaway thelaw of theLORD ofhosts, anddespised theword of the HolyOne of Israel.
Therefore is theanger of theLORDkindled against hispeople, and he hath stretchedforth hishand against them, and hathsmitten them: and thehills didtremble, and theircarcases weretorn in themidst of thestreets. For all this hisanger is not turnedaway, but hishand is stretched out still.
And he will liftup anensign to thenations fromfar, and willhiss unto them from theend of theearth: and, behold, they shallcome withspeed swiftly:
None shall beweary norstumble among them; none shallslumber norsleep; neither shall thegirdle of theirloins beloosed, nor thelatchet of theirshoes be broken:
Whosearrows aresharp, and all theirbowsbent, theirhorses'hoofs shall becounted likeflint, and theirwheels like a whirlwind:
Theirroaring shall be like alion, they shallroar like younglions: yea, they shallroar, and layhold of theprey, and shall carry it awaysafe, and none shall deliver it.
And in thatday they shallroar against them like theroaring of thesea: and if onelook unto theland, beholddarkness andsorrow, and thelight isdarkened in the heavens thereof.
