Jeremiah
Chapter 13
KJV · Textus Receptus
Thussaith theLORD unto me,Go andget thee alinengirdle, andput it upon thyloins, andput it not in water.
So Igot agirdle according to theword of theLORD, andput it on my loins.
And theword of theLORD came unto me the secondtime, saying,
Take thegirdle that thou hastgot, which is upon thyloins, andarise,go toEuphrates, andhide it there in ahole of the rock.
So Iwent, andhid it byEuphrates, as theLORD commanded me.
And it came to passaftermanydays, that theLORDsaid unto me,Arise,go toEuphrates, andtake thegirdle from thence, which Icommanded thee to hide there.
Then Iwent toEuphrates, anddigged, andtook thegirdle from theplace where I hadhid it: and, behold, thegirdle wasmarred, it was profitable for nothing.
Then theword of theLORD came unto me, saying,
Thussaith theLORD, After this manner will Imar thepride ofJudah, and thegreatpride of Jerusalem.
Thisevilpeople, whichrefuse tohear mywords, whichwalk in theimagination of theirheart, andwalkafterothergods, toserve them, and toworship them, shall even be as thisgirdle, which is good for nothing.
For as thegirdlecleaveth to theloins of aman, so have I caused tocleave unto me the wholehouse ofIsrael and the wholehouse ofJudah, saith theLORD; that they might be unto me for apeople, and for aname, and for apraise, and for aglory: but they would not hear.
Therefore thou shaltspeak unto them thisword; Thussaith theLORDGod ofIsrael, Everybottle shall befilled withwine: and they shallsay unto thee, Do we notcertainlyknow that everybottle shall befilled with wine?
Then shalt thousay unto them, Thussaith theLORD, Behold, I willfill all theinhabitants of thisland, even thekings thatsit uponDavid'sthrone, and thepriests, and theprophets, and all theinhabitants ofJerusalem, with drunkenness.
And I willdash themone againstanother, even thefathers and thesonstogether, saith theLORD: I will notpity, norspare, nor havemercy, but destroy them.
Hear ye, and giveear; be notproud: for theLORD hath spoken.
Giveglory to theLORD yourGod, before he causedarkness, and before yourfeetstumble upon thedarkmountains, and, while yelook forlight, heturn it into the shadow ofdeath, andmake it gross darkness.
But if ye will nothear it, mysoul shallweep in secretplacesfor yourpride; and mineeye shallweepsore, and rundown withtears, because theLORD'Sflock is carried away captive.
Say unto theking and to thequeen,Humble yourselves, sitdown: for yourprincipalities shall comedown, even thecrown of your glory.
Thecities of thesouth shall be shutup, and none shallopen them:Judah shall be carried awaycaptive all of it, it shall bewholly carried away captive.
Liftup youreyes, andbehold them thatcome from thenorth: where is theflock that wasgiven thee, thybeautiful flock?
What wilt thousay when he shallpunish thee? for thou hasttaught them to becaptains, and aschief over thee: shall notsorrowstake thee, as awoman in travail?
And if thousay in thineheart, Whereforecome these things upon me? For thegreatness of thineiniquity are thyskirtsdiscovered, and thyheels made bare.
Can theEthiopianchange hisskin, or theleopard hisspots? thenmay ye also dogood, that areaccustomed to do evil.
Therefore will Iscatter them as thestubble that passethaway by thewind of the wilderness.
This is thylot, theportion of thymeasures from me,saith theLORD; because thou hastforgotten me, andtrusted in falsehood.
Therefore will Idiscover thyskirts upon thyface, that thyshame may appear.
I haveseen thineadulteries, and thyneighings, thelewdness of thywhoredom, and thineabominations on thehills in thefields.Woe unto thee, OJerusalem! wilt thou not be madeclean? when shall itonce be?
