Jeremiah
Chapter 20
KJV · Textus Receptus
NowPashur theson ofImmer thepriest, who was alsochiefgovernor in thehouse of theLORD,heard thatJeremiahprophesied these things.
ThenPashursmoteJeremiah theprophet, andput him in thestocks that were in thehighgate ofBenjamin, which was by thehouse of the LORD.
And it came to pass on themorrow, thatPashur broughtforthJeremiah out of thestocks. ThensaidJeremiah unto him, TheLORD hath notcalled thynamePashur, but Magormissabib.
For thussaith theLORD, Behold, I willmake thee aterror to thyself, and to all thyfriends: and they shallfall by thesword of theirenemies, and thineeyes shallbehold it: and I willgive allJudah into thehand of theking ofBabylon, and he shall carry themcaptive intoBabylon, and shallslay them with the sword.
Moreover I willdeliver all thestrength of thiscity, and all thelabours thereof, and all the preciousthings thereof, and all thetreasures of thekings ofJudah will Igive into thehand of theirenemies, which shallspoil them, andtake them, andcarry them to Babylon.
And thou,Pashur, and all thatdwell in thinehouse shallgo intocaptivity: and thou shaltcome toBabylon, and there thou shaltdie, and shalt beburied there, thou, and all thyfriends, to whom thou hastprophesied lies.
OLORD, thou hastdeceived me, and I wasdeceived: thou artstronger than I, and hastprevailed: I am inderisiondaily, every one mocketh me.
Forsince Ispake, I criedout, Icriedviolence andspoil; because theword of theLORD was made areproach unto me, and aderision, daily.
Then Isaid, I will not makemention of him, norspeak any more in hisname. But his word was in mineheart as aburningfire shutup in mybones, and I wasweary withforbearing, and I could not stay.
For Iheard thedefaming ofmany, fear on everyside.Report, say they, and we willreport it. All myfamiliarswatched for myhalting, saying, Peradventure he will beenticed, and we shallprevail against him, and we shalltake our revenge on him.
But theLORD is with me as amighty terribleone: therefore mypersecutors shallstumble, and they shall notprevail: they shall begreatlyashamed; for they shall notprosper: theireverlastingconfusion shall never be forgotten.
But, OLORD ofhosts, thattriest therighteous, andseest thereins and theheart, let mesee thyvengeance on them: for unto thee have Iopened my cause.
Sing unto theLORD,praise ye theLORD: for he hathdelivered thesoul of thepoor from thehand of evildoers.
Cursed be theday wherein I wasborn: let not theday wherein mymotherbare me be blessed.
Cursed be theman who broughttidings to myfather, saying, Amanchild isborn unto thee; making himvery glad.
And let thatman be as thecities which theLORDoverthrew, andrepented not: and let himhear thecry in themorning, and theshouting atnoontide;
Because heslew me not from thewomb; or that mymother might have been mygrave, and herwomb to bealways great with me.
Wherefore came Iforth out of thewomb toseelabour andsorrow, that mydays should beconsumed with shame?
