In thebeginning of thereign ofJehoiakim theson ofJosiahking ofJudah came thisword from theLORD, saying,
2 Thussaith theLORD;Stand in thecourt of theLORD'Shouse, andspeak unto all thecities ofJudah, whichcome toworship in theLORD'Shouse, all thewords that Icommand thee tospeak unto them;diminish not a word:
3 If so be they willhearken, andturn everyman from hisevilway, that I mayrepent me of theevil, which Ipurpose todo unto thembecause of theevil of their doings.
4 And thou shaltsay unto them, Thussaith theLORD; If ye will nothearken to me, towalk in mylaw, which I haveset before you,
5 Tohearken to thewords of myservants theprophets, whom Isent unto you, both rising upearly, andsending them, but ye have not hearkened;
6 Then will Imake thishouse likeShiloh, and willmake thiscity acurse to all thenations of the earth.
7 So thepriests and theprophets and all thepeopleheardJeremiahspeaking thesewords in thehouse of the LORD.
8 Now it came to pass, whenJeremiah had made anend ofspeaking all that theLORD hadcommanded him tospeak unto all thepeople, that thepriests and theprophets and all thepeopletook him,saying, Thou shaltsurely die.
9 Why hast thouprophesied in thename of theLORD,saying, Thishouse shall be likeShiloh, and thiscity shall bedesolate without aninhabitant? And all thepeople weregathered againstJeremiah in thehouse of the LORD.
10 When theprinces ofJudahheard thesethings, then they cameup from theking'shouse unto thehouse of theLORD, and satdown in theentry of thenewgate of the LORD'S house.
11 Thenspake thepriests and theprophets unto theprinces and to all thepeople,saying, Thisman isworthy todie; for he hathprophesied against thiscity, as ye haveheard with your ears.
12 ThenspakeJeremiah unto all theprinces and to all thepeople,saying, TheLORDsent me toprophesy against thishouse and against thiscity all thewords that ye have heard.
13 Therefore nowamend yourways and yourdoings, andobey thevoice of theLORD yourGod; and theLORD willrepent him of theevil that he hath pronounced against you.
14 As for me, behold, I am in yourhand:do with me asseemethgood and meet unto you.
15 Butknow ye forcertain, that if ye put me todeath, ye shall surelybringinnocentblood upon yourselves, and upon thiscity, and upon theinhabitants thereof: for of atruth theLORD hathsent me unto you tospeak all thesewords in your ears.
16 Thensaid theprinces and all thepeople unto thepriests and to theprophets; Thisman is notworthy todie: for he hathspoken to us in thename of theLORD our God.
17 Then roseupcertain of theelders of theland, andspake to all theassembly of thepeople, saying,
18Micah theMorasthiteprophesied in thedays ofHezekiahking ofJudah, andspake to all thepeople ofJudah,saying, Thussaith theLORD ofhosts;Zion shall beplowed like afield, andJerusalem shall becomeheaps, and themountain of thehouse as the highplaces of a forest.
19 DidHezekiahking ofJudah and allJudah put him atall todeath? did he notfear theLORD, andbesought theLORD, and theLORDrepented him of theevil which he hadpronounced against them?Thus might weprocuregreatevil against our souls.
20 And there was also aman thatprophesied in thename of theLORD,Urijah theson ofShemaiah ofKirjathjearim, whoprophesied against thiscity and against thisland according to all thewords of Jeremiah:
21 And whenJehoiakim theking, with all his mightymen, and all theprinces,heard hiswords, thekingsought to put him todeath: but whenUrijahheard it, he wasafraid, andfled, andwent into Egypt;
22 AndJehoiakim thekingsentmen intoEgypt, namely,Elnathan theson ofAchbor, and certainmen with him into Egypt.
23 And they fetchedforthUrijah out ofEgypt, andbrought him untoJehoiakim theking; whoslew him with thesword, andcast his deadbody into thegraves of thecommon people.
24 Nevertheless thehand ofAhikam theson ofShaphan was withJeremiah, that they should notgive him into thehand of thepeople to put him to death.
