Jeremiah
Chapter 34
KJV · Textus Receptus
Theword which came untoJeremiah from theLORD, whenNebuchadnezzarking ofBabylon, and all hisarmy, and all thekingdoms of theearth of hisdominion, and all thepeople,fought againstJerusalem, and against all thecities thereof, saying,
Thussaith theLORD, theGod ofIsrael;Go andspeak toZedekiahking ofJudah, andtell him, Thussaith theLORD; Behold, I willgive thiscity into thehand of theking ofBabylon, and he shallburn it with fire:
And thou shalt not escapeout of hishand, but shaltsurely betaken, anddelivered into hishand; and thineeyes shallbehold theeyes of theking ofBabylon, and he shallspeak with theemouth tomouth, and thou shaltgo to Babylon.
Yethear theword of theLORD, OZedekiahking ofJudah; Thussaith theLORD of thee, Thou shalt notdie by the sword:
But thou shaltdie inpeace: and with theburnings of thyfathers, theformerkings which werebefore thee, so shall theyburn odours for thee; and they willlament thee, saying,Ahlord! for I havepronounced theword,saith the LORD.
ThenJeremiah theprophetspake all thesewords untoZedekiahking ofJudah in Jerusalem,
When theking ofBabylon'sarmyfought againstJerusalem, and against all thecities ofJudah that wereleft, againstLachish, and againstAzekah: for thesedefencedcitiesremained of thecities of Judah.
This is theword that came untoJeremiah from theLORD,after that thekingZedekiah hadmade acovenant with all thepeople which were atJerusalem, toproclaim liberty unto them;
That everyman should let hismanservant, and everyman hismaidservant, being anHebrew or anHebrewess,gofree; that none shouldserve himself of them, to wit, of aJew his brother.
Now when all theprinces, and all thepeople, which hadentered into thecovenant,heard that everyone should let hismanservant, and everyone hismaidservant,gofree, that none shouldserve themselves of them any more, then theyobeyed, and let them go.
Butafterward theyturned, and caused theservants and thehandmaids, whom they had letgofree, toreturn, and brought them intosubjection forservants and for handmaids.
Therefore theword of theLORD came toJeremiah from theLORD, saying,
Thussaith theLORD, theGod ofIsrael; Imade acovenant with yourfathers in theday that I brought themforth out of theland ofEgypt, out of thehouse ofbondmen, saying,
At theend ofsevenyears let yego everyman hisbrother anHebrew, which hath beensold unto thee; and when he hathserved theesixyears, thou shalt let himgofree from thee: but yourfathershearkened not unto me, neitherinclined their ear.
And ye werenowturned, and haddoneright in mysight, inproclaimingliberty everyman to hisneighbour; and ye hadmade acovenantbefore me in thehouse which iscalled by my name:
But yeturned andpolluted myname, and caused everyman hisservant, and everyman hishandmaid, whom ye hadset atliberty at theirpleasure, toreturn, and brought them intosubjection, to be unto you forservants and for handmaids.
Therefore thussaith theLORD; Ye have nothearkened unto me, inproclaimingliberty, everyone to hisbrother, and everyman to hisneighbour: behold, Iproclaim aliberty for you,saith theLORD, to thesword, to thepestilence, and to thefamine; and I willmake you to beremoved into all thekingdoms of the earth.
And I willgive themen that havetransgressed mycovenant, which have notperformed thewords of thecovenant which they hadmadebefore me, when theycut thecalf intwain, andpassed between the parts thereof,
Theprinces ofJudah, and theprinces ofJerusalem, theeunuchs, and thepriests, and all thepeople of theland, whichpassed between theparts of the calf;
I will evengive them into thehand of theirenemies, and into thehand of them thatseek theirlife: and their deadbodies shall be formeat unto thefowls of theheaven, and to thebeasts of the earth.
AndZedekiahking ofJudah and hisprinces will Igive into thehand of theirenemies, and into thehand of them thatseek theirlife, and into thehand of theking ofBabylon'sarmy, which are gone up from you.
Behold, I willcommand,saith theLORD, and cause them toreturn to thiscity; and they shallfight against it, andtake it, andburn it withfire: and I willmake thecities ofJudah adesolation without an inhabitant.
