KJV · Textus Receptus
AgainstMoab thussaith theLORD ofhosts, theGod ofIsrael;Woe untoNebo! for it isspoiled:Kiriathaim isconfounded andtaken:Misgab isconfounded and dismayed.
There shall be no morepraise ofMoab: inHeshbon they havedevisedevil against it;come, and let us cut itoff from being anation. Also thou shalt be cutdown, OMadmen; thesword shallpursue thee.
Avoice ofcrying shall be fromHoronaim, spoiling andgreat destruction.
Moab isdestroyed; her littleones have caused acry to be heard.
For in the goingup ofLuhithcontinualweeping shall goup; for in the goingdown ofHoronaim theenemies haveheard acry of destruction.
Flee, save yourlives, andbe like theheath in the wilderness.
For because thou hasttrusted in thyworks and in thytreasures, thou shalt also betaken: andChemosh shall goforth intocaptivity with hispriests and hisprinces together.
And thespoiler shallcome upon everycity, and nocity shallescape: thevalley also shallperish, and theplain shall bedestroyed, as theLORD hath spoken.
Givewings untoMoab, that it mayflee and getaway: for thecities thereof shall bedesolate, without any todwell therein.
Cursed be he thatdoeth thework of theLORDdeceitfully, andcursed be he that keepethback hissword from blood.
Moab hath been atease from hisyouth, and he hathsettled on hislees, and hath not beenemptied fromvessel tovessel, neither hath hegone intocaptivity: therefore histasteremained in him, and hisscent is not changed.
Therefore, behold, thedayscome, saith theLORD, that I willsend unto himwanderers, that shall cause him towander, and shallempty hisvessels, andbreak their bottles.
AndMoab shall beashamed ofChemosh, as thehouse ofIsrael wasashamed ofBethel their confidence.
Howsay ye, We aremighty andstrongmen for the war?
Moab isspoiled, and goneup out of hercities, and hischosen youngmen are gonedown to theslaughter, saith theKing, whosename is theLORD of hosts.
Thecalamity ofMoab isnear tocome, and hisafflictionhasteth fast.
All ye that areabout him, bemoan him; and all ye thatknow hisname, say, How is thestrongstaffbroken, and thebeautiful rod!
Thoudaughter that dostinhabitDibon, comedown from thyglory, andsit inthirst; for thespoiler ofMoab shallcome upon thee, and he shalldestroy thy strong holds.
Oinhabitant ofAroer, stand by theway, andespy;ask him thatfleeth, and her thatescapeth, andsay, What is done?
Moab isconfounded; for it is brokendown:howl andcry;tell ye it inArnon, thatMoab is spoiled,
Andjudgment iscome upon theplaincountry; uponHolon, and uponJahazah, and upon Mephaath,
And uponDibon, and uponNebo, and upon Bethdiblathaim,
And uponKiriathaim, and uponBethgamul, and upon Bethmeon,
And uponKerioth, and uponBozrah, and upon all thecities of theland ofMoab, far or near.
Thehorn ofMoab is cutoff, and hisarm isbroken, saith the LORD.
Make ye himdrunken: for hemagnified himself against theLORD:Moab also shallwallow in hisvomit, and he also shall be in derision.
For was notIsrael aderision unto thee? was hefound amongthieves? forsince thouspakest of him, thou skippedst for joy.
O ye thatdwell inMoab, leave thecities, anddwell in therock, and be like thedove that maketh hernest in thesides of thehole's mouth.
We haveheard thepride ofMoab, (he isexceedingproud) hisloftiness, and hisarrogancy, and hispride, and thehaughtiness of his heart.
Iknow hiswrath, saith theLORD; but it shall not be so; hislies shall not so effect it.
Therefore will Ihowl forMoab, and I will cryout for allMoab; mine heart shallmourn for themen of Kirheres.
Ovine ofSibmah, I willweep for thee with theweeping ofJazer: thyplants are goneover thesea, theyreach even to thesea ofJazer: thespoiler isfallen upon thy summerfruits and upon thy vintage.
Andjoy andgladness istaken from the plentifulfield, and from theland ofMoab; and I have causedwine tofail from thewinepresses: none shalltread withshouting; theirshouting shall be no shouting.
From thecry ofHeshbon even untoElealeh, and even untoJahaz, have theyuttered theirvoice, fromZoar even untoHoronaim, as anheifer of three yearsold: for thewaters also ofNimrim shall be desolate.
Moreover I will cause tocease inMoab, saith theLORD, him thatoffereth in the highplaces, and him that burnethincense to his gods.
Therefore mineheart shallsound forMoab likepipes, and mineheart shallsound likepipes for themen ofKirheres: because theriches that he hathgotten are perished.
For everyhead shall bebald, and everybeardclipped: upon all thehands shall becuttings, and upon theloins sackcloth.
There shall belamentation generally upon all thehousetops ofMoab, and in thestreets thereof: for I havebrokenMoab like avessel wherein is nopleasure, saith the LORD.
They shallhowl, saying, How is it brokendown! how hathMoabturned theback withshame! so shallMoab be aderision and adismaying to all them about him.
For thussaith theLORD; Behold, he shallfly as aneagle, and shallspread hiswings over Moab.
Kerioth istaken, and the strongholds aresurprised, and the mightymen'shearts inMoab at thatday shall be as theheart of awoman in her pangs.
And Moab shall be destroyed from being a people, because he hath magnified himself against the LORD.
Fear, and the pit, and the snare, shall be upon thee, O inhabitant of Moab, saith the LORD.
He that fleeth from the fear shall fall into the pit; and he that getteth up out of the pit shall be taken in the snare: for I will bring upon it, even upon Moab, the year of their visitation, saith the LORD.
They that fled stood under the shadow of Heshbon because of the force: but a fire shall come forth out of Heshbon, and a flame from the midst of Sihon, and shall devour the corner of Moab, and the crown of the head of the tumultuous ones.
Woe be unto thee, O Moab! the people of Chemosh perisheth: for thy sons are taken captives, and thy daughters captives.
Yet will I bring again the captivity of Moab in the latter days, saith the LORD. Thus far is the judgment of Moab.
