O yechildren ofBenjamin, gather yourselves toflee out of themidst ofJerusalem, andblow thetrumpet inTekoa, and setup asign of fire inBethhaccerem: forevilappeareth out of thenorth, andgreat destruction.
2 I havelikened thedaughter ofZion to acomely and delicate woman.
3 Theshepherds with theirflocks shallcome unto her; they shallpitch theirtents against her roundabout; they shallfeed everyone in his place.
4Prepare yewar against her;arise, and let us goup atnoon.Woe unto us! for theday goethaway, for theshadows of theevening are stretched out.
5Arise, and let usgo bynight, and let usdestroy her palaces.
6 For thus hath theLORD ofhostssaid, Hew yedowntrees, andcast amount againstJerusalem: this is thecity to bevisited; she is whollyoppression in the midst of her.
7 As afountain castethout herwaters, so she castethout herwickedness:violence andspoil isheard in her; beforemecontinually isgrief and wounds.
8 Be thouinstructed, OJerusalem, lest mysouldepart from thee; lest Imake theedesolate, aland not inhabited.
9 Thussaith theLORD ofhosts, They shallthroughlyglean theremnant ofIsrael as avine: turnback thinehand as agrapegatherer into the baskets.
10 To whom shall Ispeak, and givewarning, that they mayhear? behold, theirear isuncircumcised, and theycannothearken: behold, theword of theLORD is unto them areproach; they have no delight in it.
11 Therefore I amfull of thefury of theLORD; I amweary with holdingin: I will pour itout upon thechildrenabroad, and upon theassembly of youngmentogether: for even thehusband with thewife shall betaken, theaged with him that isfull of days.
12 And theirhouses shall beturned untoothers, with theirfields andwivestogether: for I will stretchout myhand upon theinhabitants of theland,saith the LORD.
13 For from theleast of them even unto thegreatest of them every one isgiven tocovetousness; and from theprophet even unto thepriest every onedealeth falsely.
14 They havehealed also thehurt of thedaughter of mypeopleslightly,saying,Peace,peace; when there is no peace.
15 Were theyashamed when they hadcommittedabomination?nay, they were not atallashamed,neithercould theyblush: therefore they shallfall among them thatfall: at thetime that Ivisit them they shall be castdown,saith the LORD.
16 Thussaith theLORD,Stand ye in theways, andsee, andask for theoldpaths, where is thegoodway, andwalk therein, and ye shallfindrest for yoursouls. But theysaid, We will not walk therein.
17 Also Isetwatchmen over you, saying,Hearken to thesound of thetrumpet. But theysaid, We will not hearken.
18 Thereforehear, yenations, andknow, O congregation, what is among them.
19Hear, Oearth: behold, I willbringevil upon thispeople, even thefruit of theirthoughts, because they have nothearkened unto mywords, nor to mylaw, but rejected it.
20 To what purposecometh there to meincense fromSheba, and thesweetcane from afarcountry? your burntofferings are notacceptable, nor yoursacrifices sweet unto me.
21 Therefore thussaith theLORD, Behold, I willlaystumblingblocks before thispeople, and thefathers and thesonstogether shallfall upon them; theneighbour and hisfriend shall perish.
22 Thussaith theLORD, Behold, apeoplecometh from thenorthcountry, and agreatnation shall beraised from thesides of the earth.
23 They shall layhold onbow andspear; they arecruel, and have nomercy; theirvoiceroareth like thesea; and theyride uponhorses, set inarray asmen forwar against thee, Odaughter of Zion.
24 We haveheard thefame thereof: ourhands waxfeeble:anguish hath takenhold of us, andpain, as of a woman in travail.
25 Go notforth into thefield, norwalk by theway; for thesword of theenemy andfear is on every side.
26 Odaughter of mypeople,gird thee withsackcloth, andwallow thyself inashes:make theemourning, as for an onlyson, mostbitterlamentation: for thespoiler shallsuddenly come upon us.
27 I haveset thee for atower and afortress among mypeople, that thou mayestknow andtry their way.
28 They are allgrievousrevolters,walking withslanders: they arebrass andiron; they are all corrupters.
29 Thebellows areburned, thelead isconsumed of thefire; thefoundermelteth invain: for thewicked are not plucked away.
30Reprobatesilver shall mencall them, because theLORD hath rejected them.
