Theword that came toJeremiah from theLORD, saying,
2Stand in thegate of theLORD'Shouse, andproclaim there thisword, andsay,Hear theword of theLORD, all ye ofJudah, that enterin at thesegates toworship the LORD.
3 Thussaith theLORD ofhosts, theGod ofIsrael,Amend yourways and yourdoings, and I will cause you todwell in this place.
4Trust ye not inlyingwords,saying, Thetemple of theLORD, Thetemple of theLORD, Thetemple of the LORD, are these.
5 For if yethroughlyamend yourways and yourdoings; if yethroughlyexecutejudgment between aman and his neighbour;
6 If yeoppress not thestranger, thefatherless, and thewidow, andshed notinnocentblood in thisplace, neitherwalkafterothergods to your hurt:
7 Then will I cause you todwell in thisplace, in theland that Igave to yourfathers,forever and ever.
8 Behold, yetrust inlyingwords, that cannot profit.
9 Will yesteal,murder, and commitadultery, andswearfalsely, and burnincense untoBaal, andwalkafterothergods whom ye know not;
10 Andcome andstandbefore me in thishouse, which iscalled by myname, andsay, We aredelivered todo all these abominations?
11 Is thishouse, which iscalled by myname, become aden ofrobbers in youreyes? Behold, even I haveseen it,saith the LORD.
12 Butgo ye now unto myplace which was inShiloh, where Iset myname at thefirst, andsee what Idid to itfor thewickedness of mypeople Israel.
13 And now, because ye havedone all theseworks,saith theLORD, and Ispake unto you, rising upearly andspeaking, but yeheard not; and Icalled you, but ye answered not;
14 Therefore will Ido unto thishouse, which iscalled by myname, wherein yetrust, and unto theplace which Igave to you and to yourfathers, as I havedone to Shiloh.
15 And I will cast youout of mysight, as I have castout all yourbrethren, even the wholeseed of Ephraim.
16 Thereforepray not thou for thispeople, neither liftupcry norprayer forthem, neither makeintercession to me: for I will not hear thee.
17Seest thou not what theydo in thecities ofJudah and in thestreets of Jerusalem?
18 Thechildrengatherwood, and thefatherskindle thefire, and thewomenknead theirdough, tomakecakes to thequeen ofheaven, and to pourout drinkofferings untoothergods, that they may provoke me to anger.
19 Do they provoke me toanger?saith theLORD: do they not provoke themselves to theconfusion of their own faces?
20 Therefore thussaith theLordGOD; Behold, mineanger and myfury shall be pouredout upon thisplace, uponman, and uponbeast, and upon thetrees of thefield, and upon thefruit of theground; and it shallburn, and shall not be quenched.
22 For Ispake not unto yourfathers, norcommanded them in theday that I brought themout of theland ofEgypt,concerning burntofferings or sacrifices:
23 But thisthingcommanded I them,saying,Obey myvoice, and I will be yourGod, and ye shall be mypeople: andwalk ye in all theways that I havecommanded you, that it may be well unto you.
24 But theyhearkened not, norinclined theirear, butwalked in thecounsels and in theimagination of theirevilheart, and wentbackward, and not forward.
25 Since theday that yourfathers came forthout of theland ofEgypt unto thisday I have evensent unto you all myservants theprophets,daily rising upearly and sending them:
26 Yet theyhearkened not unto me, norinclined theirear, buthardened theirneck: they didworse than their fathers.
27 Therefore thou shaltspeak all thesewords unto them; but they will nothearken to thee: thou shalt alsocall unto them; but they will not answer thee.
28 But thou shaltsay unto them, This is anation thatobeyeth not thevoice of theLORD theirGod, norreceivethcorrection:truth isperished, and is cutoff from their mouth.
29 Cutoff thinehair, O Jerusalem, and cast itaway, and takeup alamentation on highplaces; for theLORD hathrejected andforsaken thegeneration of his wrath.
30 For thechildren ofJudah havedoneevil in mysight,saith theLORD: they haveset theirabominations in thehouse which iscalled by myname, to pollute it.
31 And they havebuilt the highplaces ofTophet, which is in thevalley of theson ofHinnom, toburn theirsons and theirdaughters in thefire; which Icommanded them not, neithercame it into my heart.
32 Therefore, behold, thedayscome,saith theLORD, that it shall no more becalledTophet, nor thevalley of theson ofHinnom, but thevalley ofslaughter: for they shallbury inTophet, till there beno place.
33 And thecarcases of thispeople shall bemeat for thefowls of theheaven, and for thebeasts of theearth; and none shall fray them away.
34 Then will I cause tocease from thecities ofJudah, and from thestreets ofJerusalem, thevoice ofmirth, and thevoice ofgladness, thevoice of thebridegroom, and thevoice of thebride: for theland shall be desolate.
