Jeremiah
Chapter 9
KJV · Textus Receptus
Ohthat myhead werewaters, and mineeyes afountain oftears, that I mightweepday andnight for theslain of thedaughter of my people!
Ohthat I had in thewilderness a lodgingplace of wayfaringmen; that I mightleave mypeople, andgo from them! for they be alladulterers, anassembly of treacherous men.
And theybend theirtongues like theirbow forlies: but they are notvaliant for thetruth upon theearth; for theyproceed fromevil toevil, and theyknow not me,saith the LORD.
Take yeheed everyone of hisneighbour, andtrust ye not in anybrother: for everybrother willutterlysupplant, and everyneighbour willwalk with slanders.
And they willdeceive everyone hisneighbour, and will notspeak thetruth: they havetaught theirtongue tospeaklies, andweary themselves to commit iniquity.
Thinehabitation is in themidst ofdeceit; throughdeceit theyrefuse toknow me,saith the LORD.
Therefore thussaith theLORD ofhosts, Behold, I willmelt them, andtry them; for how shall Idofor thedaughter of my people?
Theirtongue is as anarrow shotout; itspeakethdeceit: onespeakethpeaceably to hisneighbour with hismouth, but inheart helayeth his wait.
Shall I notvisit them for these things?saith theLORD: shall not mysoul beavenged on such a nation as this?
For themountains will I takeup aweeping andwailing, and for thehabitations of thewilderness alamentation, because they are burnedup, so thatnone canpass through them; neither can menhear thevoice of thecattle; both thefowl of theheavens and thebeast arefled; they are gone.
And I willmakeJerusalemheaps, and aden ofdragons; and I willmake thecities ofJudahdesolate, without an inhabitant.
Who is thewiseman, that mayunderstand this? and who is he to whom themouth of theLORD hathspoken, that he maydeclare it, for what thelandperisheth and is burnedup like awilderness, that none passeth through?
And theLORDsaith, Because they haveforsaken mylaw which Isetbefore them, and have notobeyed myvoice, neither walked therein;
But havewalkedafter theimagination of their ownheart, andafterBaalim, which theirfathers taught them:
Therefore thussaith theLORD ofhosts, theGod ofIsrael; Behold, I willfeed them, even thispeople, withwormwood, and give themwater ofgall to drink.
I willscatter them also among theheathen, whom neither they nor theirfathers haveknown: and I willsend aswordafter them, till I have consumed them.
Thussaith theLORD ofhosts,Consider ye, andcall for the mourningwomen, that they maycome; andsend forcunning women, that they may come:
And let them makehaste, and takeup awailing for us, that oureyes may rundown withtears, and oureyelids gushout with waters.
For avoice ofwailing isheard out ofZion, How are wespoiled! we aregreatlyconfounded, because we haveforsaken theland, because ourdwellings have cast us out.
Yethear theword of theLORD, O yewomen, and let yourearreceive theword of hismouth, andteach yourdaughterswailing, and everyone herneighbour lamentation.
Fordeath is comeup into ourwindows, and isentered into ourpalaces, to cutoff thechildren fromwithout, and the youngmen from the streets.
Speak, Thussaith theLORD, Even thecarcases ofmen shallfall asdung upon theopenfield, and as thehandfulafter theharvestman, and none shall gather them.
Thussaith theLORD, Let not thewise manglory in hiswisdom, neither let themighty manglory in hismight, let not therich manglory in his riches:
But let him thatgloriethglory in this, that heunderstandeth andknoweth me, that I am theLORD whichexerciselovingkindness,judgment, andrighteousness, in theearth: for in these things Idelight,saith the LORD.
Behold, thedayscome,saith theLORD, that I willpunish all them which arecircumcised with the uncircumcised;
Egypt, andJudah, andEdom, and thechildren ofAmmon, andMoab, and all that are in theutmostcorners, thatdwell in thewilderness: for all thesenations areuncircumcised, and all thehouse ofIsrael areuncircumcised in the heart.
