There was aman in theland ofUz, whosename wasJob; and thatman wasperfect andupright, and one thatfearedGod, andeschewed evil.
2 And there wereborn unto himsevensons andthree daughters.
3 Hissubstance also wasseventhousandsheep, andthreethousandcamels, andfivehundredyoke ofoxen, andfivehundred sheasses, and averygreathousehold; so that thisman was thegreatest of all themen of the east.
4 And hissonswent andfeasted in theirhouses, everyone hisday; andsent andcalled for theirthreesisters toeat and to drink with them.
5 And it was so, when thedays of theirfeasting were goneabout, thatJobsent andsanctified them, and rose upearly in themorning, andoffered burntofferings according to thenumber of them all: forJobsaid, It maybe that mysons havesinned, andcursedGod in theirhearts. ThusdidJob continually.
6 Now there was aday when thesons ofGodcame topresent themselves before theLORD, andSatancame also among them.
7 And theLORDsaid untoSatan,Whencecomest thou? ThenSatananswered theLORD, andsaid, From going to andfro in theearth, and from walking up and down in it.
8 And theLORDsaid untoSatan, Hast thouconsidered myservantJob, that there is none like him in theearth, aperfect and anuprightman, one thatfearethGod, andescheweth evil?
9 ThenSatananswered theLORD, andsaid, DothJobfearGod for nought?
10 Hast not thou made anhedge about him, andabout hishouse, and about all that he hath on everyside? thou hastblessed thework of hishands, and hissubstance isincreased in the land.
11But putforth thinehand now, andtouch all that he hath, and he willcurse thee to thy face.
12 And theLORDsaid untoSatan, Behold, all that he hath is in thypower; only upon himself put notforth thinehand. SoSatan wentforth from thepresence of the LORD.
13 And there was aday when hissons and hisdaughters wereeating anddrinkingwine in theireldestbrother's house:
14 And therecame amessenger untoJob, andsaid, Theoxen wereplowing, and theassesfeeding beside them:
15 And theSabeansfell upon them, and took themaway; yea, they haveslain theservants with theedge of thesword; and I only amescaped alone to tell thee.
16 While he was yetspeaking, therecame also another, andsaid, Thefire ofGod isfallen fromheaven, and hath burnedup thesheep, and theservants, andconsumed them; and I only amescaped alone to tell thee.
17 While he was yetspeaking, therecame also another, andsaid, TheChaldeans madeoutthreebands, andfell upon thecamels, and have carried themaway, yea, andslain theservants with theedge of thesword; and I only amescaped alone to tell thee.
18 While he was yetspeaking, therecame also another, andsaid, Thysons and thydaughters wereeating anddrinkingwine in theireldestbrother's house:
19 And, behold, therecame agreatwindfrom thewilderness, andsmote thefourcorners of thehouse, and itfell upon the youngmen, and they aredead; and I only amescaped alone to tell thee.
20 ThenJobarose, andrent hismantle, andshaved hishead, and felldown upon theground, and worshipped,
21 Andsaid,Naked came Iout of mymother'swomb, andnaked shall Ireturn thither: theLORDgave, and theLORD hath takenaway;blessed be thename of the LORD.
22 In all thisJobsinned not, norchargedGod foolishly.
