Job
Chapter 14
KJV · Textus Receptus
Man that isborn of awoman is offewdays, andfull of trouble.
He comethforth like aflower, and is cutdown: hefleeth also as ashadow, and continueth not.
And dost thouopen thineeyes upon such anone, andbringest me into judgment with thee?
Who canbring aclean thing out of anunclean? not one.
Seeing hisdays aredetermined, thenumber of hismonths are with thee, thou hastappointed hisbounds that he cannot pass;
Turn from him, that he mayrest, till he shallaccomplish, as anhireling, his day.
For thereishope of atree, if it be cutdown, that it will sproutagain, and that the tenderbranch thereof will not cease.
Though theroot thereof waxold in theearth, and thestock thereofdie in the ground;
Yet through thescent ofwater it willbud, and bringforthboughs like a plant.
Butmandieth, and wastethaway: yea,man giveth up the ghost, and where is he?
As thewatersfail from thesea, and theflooddecayeth and drieth up:
Soman liethdown, andriseth not: till theheavens be nomore, they shall notawake, nor be raisedout of their sleep.
Othat thou wouldesthide me in thegrave, that thou wouldest keep mesecret, until thywrath bepast, that thou wouldestappoint me a settime, and remember me!
If amandie, shall helive again? all thedays of my appointedtime will Iwait, till mychange come.
Thou shaltcall, and I willanswer thee: thou wilt have adesire to thework of thine hands.
For now thounumberest mysteps: dost thou notwatch over my sin?
Mytransgression is sealedup in abag, and thou sewestup mine iniquity.
Andsurely themountainfalling cometh tonought, and therock isremoved out of his place.
Thewaterswear thestones: thou washestaway the things whichgrow out of thedust of theearth; and thoudestroyest thehope of man.
Thouprevailest forever against him, and hepasseth: thouchangest hiscountenance, and sendest him away.
Hissons come tohonour, and heknoweth it not; and they are broughtlow, but he perceiveth it not of them.
But hisflesh upon him shall havepain, and hissoul within him shall mourn.
