Theword of theLORD that came toJoel theson of Pethuel.
Hear this, ye oldmen, and giveear, all yeinhabitants of theland. Hath this been in yourdays, oreven in thedays of your fathers?
Tell ye yourchildren of it, and let yourchildren tell theirchildren, and theirchildrenanother generation.
That which thepalmerworm hathleft hath thelocusteaten; and that which thelocust hathleft hath thecankerwormeaten; and that which thecankerworm hathleft hath thecaterpiller eaten.
Awake, yedrunkards, andweep; andhowl, all yedrinkers ofwine, because of the newwine; for it is cutoff from your mouth.
For anation is comeup upon myland, strong, and withoutnumber, whoseteeth are theteeth of alion, and he hath the cheekteeth of a great lion.
He hathlaid myvinewaste, andbarked my figtree: he hath made itcleanbare, and cast itaway; thebranches thereof are made white.
Lament like avirgingirded withsackcloth for thehusband of her youth.
The meatoffering and the drinkoffering is cutoff from thehouse of theLORD; thepriests, theLORD'Sministers, mourn.
Thefield iswasted, thelandmourneth; for thecorn iswasted: the newwine is driedup, theoil languisheth.
Be yeashamed, O yehusbandmen;howl, O yevinedressers, for thewheat and for thebarley; because theharvest of thefield is perished.
Thevine is driedup, and the figtreelanguisheth; thepomegranate tree, the palmtree also, and the appletree, even all thetrees of thefield, arewithered: becausejoy is witheredaway from thesons of men.
Gird yourselves, andlament, yepriests:howl, yeministers of thealtar:come, lie allnight insackcloth, yeministers of myGod: for the meatoffering and the drinkoffering iswithholden from thehouse of your God.
Sanctify ye afast, call a solemnassembly, gather theelders and all theinhabitants of theland into thehouse of theLORD yourGod, andcry unto the LORD,
Alas for theday! for theday of theLORD is athand, and as adestruction from theAlmighty shall it come.
Is not themeat cutoff before oureyes, yea,joy andgladness from thehouse of our God?
Theseed isrotten under theirclods, thegarners are laiddesolate, thebarns are brokendown; for thecorn is withered.
How do thebeastsgroan! theherds ofcattle areperplexed, because they have nopasture; yea, theflocks ofsheep are made desolate.
OLORD, to thee will Icry: for thefire hathdevoured thepastures of thewilderness, and theflame hathburned all thetrees of the field.
Thebeasts of thefieldcry also unto thee: for therivers ofwaters are driedup, and thefire hathdevoured thepastures of the wilderness.
